Serving as a spinoff to the LittleBigPlanet series, Sackboy: A Big Adventure players were previously promised that a multiplayer mode would be added to the game and now it appears that this promise has been fulfilled. PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users will now find the option to play the game in multiplayer for free.
At first, developer Sumo Digital wanted to launch the feature alongside the game’s release last month. However, the team realized that they needed more time to further refine and polish the online feature if they were to release a component that works smoothly. As such, the decision to release it later than planned was made.
That being said, Sackboy: A Big Adventure did have some form of multiplayer functionality when it was released, but it was limited to just local co-op. Although it’s worth mentioning that the developer didn’t cut corners when it came to the game’s single-player campaign.

Players who prefer to experience Sackboy: A Big Adventure solo will still have a lot of fun progressing through the game and exploring everything it has to offer on their own. That said, those who have been looking forward to play with their friends will be happy to know that this recent update will finally let them do so.
Both PS4 and PS5 versions of the game will have launched the newer, more robust multiplayer mode thanks to a free update that just got released. According to a PlayStation Blog, Design Director Ned Waterhouse of Sumo Digital shares what players can expect out of this new online functionality.
Well, for one thing, players now have the option to experience the entirety of the game with up to three others. When playing the game via this mode, the team of players will come across ten Teamwork Levels overall, with each of the five worlds containing two of these levels.
As the name suggests, these ten teamwork levels require coordination. As a matter of fact, Waterhouse describes them as “exclusive multiplayer stages,” so teamwork will truly be a must.
Among other things, the new update will also introduce a couple of multiplayer moves, namely slap, grab, and roll. These will definitely come in handy when casually fooling around and having fun with friends. Along with this, Sumo Digital also added co-op emotes in Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which can be equipped by going in the wardrobe at Zom Zom’s.
The good news is that players don’t need to fret over progress. Whatever kind of progress a player makes while in multiplayer will transfer over to their local game, even all the Dreamer Orbs they get to obtain.
In other news, Sackboy: A Big Adventure now supports cross-play multiplayer for PS4 and PS5, as well as save transfers to those two aforementioned consoles. Players who use the PS4 can transfer their saves to the PS5 by choosing the Extras option while in the pause menu. Afterward, simply follow the instructions shown on the screen. Easy peasy!
Sackboy: A Big Adventure and the LittleBigPlanet series, in general, are considered to be Sony’s answer to Nintendo’s ever-popular Mario franchise. Players will be happy to see that Sackboy is a completely unique game outside of the franchise it’s a part of, and we’re thrilled that it’s expanding and reaching even more people in the community.
