Sony just announced several different features currently in the works. According to a recent post on PlayStation.Blog, features such as VRR support for 1440p output, the ability to join a Discord voice chat natively, and so much more are coming to PlayStation 5 beta.

“As the PlayStation 5 console continues to evolve, we’re excited to deliver new features to our community,” PlayStation said in its official statement. “Today, we’re rolling out the next PS5 system software beta with a number of fan-requested features, including Discord voice chat and Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p resolution. We’re also introducing a variety of UX, accessibility and social feature enhancements that make playing with your friends or enjoying your gaming experiences on the PS5 console easier than ever.”

Unfortunately, you will not be the first to access those features unless you are selected for the beta. Nonetheless, with these new features, you will finally be able to make Discord calls directly from PlayStation 5, and display the game you are playing to whoever you are conversing with, just like mobile and desktop versions.

Here is the complete list of the features Sony is adding to the PlayStation 5 beta:

  • Join a Discord voice chat on your PlayStation 5 console
  • Start or request a screen share from your friend’s profile
  • New “Join Game” icon in Party chats
  • New “Friends Who Play” tile
  • Manually upload game captures to the PlayStation app
  • Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p
  • Game library enhancements
  • Game presets for multiplayer session preferences
  • PS4 to PS5 saved data migration
  • PS5 to PS5 data transfer
  • Screen reader improvements
  • Wireless device update for DualSense wireless controller
  • Game capture using voice command (limited release)

These additions are potentially considerable boons to the multiplayer ecosystem Sony has been attempting to build since it acquired Bungie for $3.6 million. And based on a financial call last year, multiplayer was the biggest reason that PlayStation Plus users kept paying to use the gaming subscription service of Sony each month.

Avid gamers are excited about these new features. One of those they love is the ability to use voice commands to capture video. They also love the game save transfers since it has been an enormous pain point before this update. Of course, the rest of the other features on the list are also promising.

“Invited beta participants from the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France will receive an email with instructions on how to download the beta and get started. As with previous betas, some features may not make it into the final version or may see significant changes when the final system update releases globally in the coming months,” the PlayStation.Blog post added.
