In “Stardew Valley,” Ginger Island is a beautiful place to visit. It is situated within the Fern Islands archipelago and is also the only island in that archipelago you can head over to.

Ginger Island is dotted with secrets and puzzles. You’ll discover exciting NPCs, a picturesque active volcano, and even a new farm to find opportunities from. But, one of the arcane secrets on this island is that with Gem Birds.

On this island, you’ll also be locating Golden Walnuts, a currency you can use to open up more places and new rewards. To gather these Walnuts, you must first understand the Gem Birds and solve their riddle. Here’s your guide to solving the puzzles from the Birds.

The Gem Birds Explained

In this game, Gem Birds are mystical creatures that appear on Ginger Island when it rains. They come in various hues – blue, green, yellow, and red – each corresponding to a certain gemstone, hence their name.

You must find and remember the gem each Bird drops to solve the riddle at Ginger Island’s shrine. Putting the right gems on the shrine’s pedestals reveals a hidden reward. Gem Birds are known to add elements of both mystery and challenge, encouraging you to explore and observe more.

Solving their riddle is not tricky. Here’s the guide.

How To Solve The Gem Birds Puzzle

Step 1: Find The Gem Birds

You wouldn’t actually be able to solve the puzzle if you don’t first find these Birds that own them. They appear in every corner of the island – north, east, west, and south. But it must be a rainy day. Once you spot a bird, scare it away by walking toward it and picking up the gem it drops.

As you pick up the gem, remember what this gem is and the exact location where you picked it up. You can make a note, such as “Emerald Gem – East.” You’ll find doing this helpful, especially when turning in the gems.

Here’s a list of the five possible Gem Birds dropping five various kinds of gems:

  • Blue = Aquamarine
  • Green = Emerald
  • Purple = Amethyst
  • Red = Ruby
  • Yellow = Topaz

Once you’ve obtained a gem in a particular area, you will need to wait for the next rainy day to search for the gem in the subsequent regions. Repeat the process until you’re able to collect the gems.

Pro Tip: You can accelerate this process by using a Rain Totem every time you are on Ginger Island. This forces the rain to pour down. This way, you can complete the puzzle quicker.

Step 2: Set The Gems

Once you have the gems, go back to the shrine and pedestals area in the Jungle. Make sure your list, as you were instructed a while ago, is ready.

The pedestals in the Jungle are laid out like a compass. To solve the puzzle, set each gem on the corresponding pedestal that indicates the part of the island where you find the gem.

For instance, an Aquamarine gem found in the south must be set on the bottom pedestal. A Ruby gem found in the north should be set on the top pedestal.

Remember: The solution to the riddle will vary for each player.

Rewards

You’ll receive five Golden Walnuts.
