Capcom released Teppen back in 2019, a card fighting and collecting mobile title that touted stunning graphics and an innovative battle system. Now, the game just released its new expansion, The Battle of Amatsu No Kuni, as well as a brand-new character, the ‘Demon Queen’ Oichi.
The Dark Element Hero joins the fray from the Sengoku Basara series, making her the very first Hero from the franchise to be featured in Teppen. For those who are unfamiliar, Sengoku Basara’s Oichi has an incredibly tragic backstory—possibly even one of the most sorrowful ones in the series.
Oichi fell victim to insanity after mourning the death of her beloved husband, who was killed at the hands of her brother’s army. In The Battle of Amatsu No Kuni’s storyline, Oichi succumbs to the dark forces which caused her to turn into a demon queen. Naturally, given her title as “Demon Queen,” Oichi joins the roster of villains in Teppen, alongside other antagonists such as Akuma and Albert Wesker.
Oichi has three different Hero Arts for players to make use of. Namely, she’s equipped with Dancing Dead, Dark Invitation, and Despair, wail, and perish! All three of these make use of a player’s Graveyard, turning it into an advantage. Provided that you have a sound strategy and you know how to utilize Oichi’s abilities, she can offer you buffs, heals, and other capabilities that deal damage to enemies via eliminated units.
In other news, the brand-new expansion also introduces several new cards for the Light Army commander Tokugawa Ieyasu and Dark Army commander Ishida Mitsunari. These new cards will help you think up new strategies as well as loadouts for you to peruse.
From what we’ve observed, it seems as if Capcom took inspiration from other successful card games, such as Blizzard’s Hearthstone, and then incorporated those ideas into Teppen. As such, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the virtual card game remains successful even after almost two years of being released.
Capcom has always been considered by many as a celebrated video game development company, and it’s great that it was able to pave a way for its own niche in the virtual card game genre by utilizing battles that take place in real time.
As a result, Teppen players don’t have the privilege of taking forever to decide on their next move. Many fans of this genre will surely appreciate this fact, as it offers a more fast-paced experience than other similar titles.
Not only does Capcom boast of Teppen’s one-of-a-kind gameplay, another one of its selling points is the fact that it features a myriad of familiar faces—from iconic heroes to villains. Teppen has characters from some of Capcom’s most popular franchises, such as Mega Man, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and more.
As a matter of fact, even characters from the highly acclaimed Okami series were recently added to the game’s roster. There’s just something about crossovers that attracts many players to a game (e.g. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate). For instance, the fact that Devil May Cry’s Dante and Street Fighter’s Ryu can go against each other via a card duel is a sight that many would want to see.
