“One Piece” is a favorite anime taking the world by storm. Not only that, but this animated series, out of the many great animes around, has also been adapted into a live-action show on Netflix. Amazing, right?
The Netflix live-action is also receiving quite an overwhelmingly positive response, not just from the fans but from critics, too. On Rotten Tomatoes, for instance, the “One Piece” live-action is rated 83 percent. The ratings are also high.

1. The Strongest (drum roll please): Imu
Interestingly, Monkey D. Luffy is NOT the strongest character in the series. That adds to the excitement of viewing, doesn’t it? Many believe Imu is the most robust character in “One Piece.” But he’s a villain, right, you ask? Yes.
Imu is one of the greatest villains in “One Piece,” occupying the Empty Throne and ruling over the World Government. He is a character with such immense power and influence. Plus, he is also not just simply involved but deeply involved in the plot of the series, both directly and indirectly. So, where does Monkey D. Luffy stand?
2. Shanks
Ranking number two on this list of the strongest characters in “One Piece” is Shanks. Still no sign of the lead character, Monkey D. Luffy.
Shanks, also referred to as “Red-Haired” Shanks or simply “Red Hair,” is a legendary and influential pirate in the Grand Line (Grand Line is a gigantic ocean current that circles the planet, flowing from west to east), being the captain of the Red Haired Pirate Crew and among the Four Emperors in Grand Line’s second half.
3. Blackbeard
Marshall D. Teach, who is most usually referred to by this epithet, Blackbeard, is the captain-turned-admiral of the Blackbeard Pirates. He is the third-strongest of the bunch.
Blackbeard is also among the Four Emperors (a group of four pirates regarded to be the most powerful and notorious captains in the globe) and the only known person in history (or in “One Piece” history) to wield the powers of two Devil Fruits. Devil Fruits are mysterious fruits scattered all over the world that, when eaten, give the eater superhuman powers.
4. Monkey D. Luffy (at last)
Monkey D. Luffy isn’t just charming but also one of the strongest characters in the series. He has to be. But it is interesting to note that he only comes in number four.
Also referred to as “Straw Hat” Luffy, he is the protagonist in “One Piece.” Luffy made his debut as a young boy who acquired the properties of rubber after he accidentally ate one of the Devil Fruits that was supposedly for Shanks.
5. Akainu
Next on the list is Akainu, the admiral alias of Sakazuki. Sakazuki is the current fleet admiral of the Marines. Upon becoming its fleet admiral, one of his first decisions was to relocate the Marine Headquarters into the New World in preparation for the New Pirate Age. 6. Monkey D. Dragon
Also on this list of the strongest characters in “One Piece” is another Monkey, but this time, it is Monkey D. Dragon. Also known as “Rebellious Dragon,” Monkey D. Dragon is the infamous Supreme Commander and one of the founding members of the Revolutionary Army, a mighty military organization. Formerly the Freedom Fighters’ (a military force) Captain, he wants to overthrow the World Government and is labeled the “World’s Worst Criminal.” He is also none other than the father of Monkey D. Luffy.
7. Dracule Mihawk
Sounds like the famous Eastern European vampire? He also looks like him! Also known by his alias “Hawk Eyes,” Dracule Mihawk is a world-famous pirate who holds the title of the “Strongest Swordsman of the World.” He is also among the founders of the Cross Guild (also a powerful organization in the plot) and was formerly one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
8. Sabo
Joining this ranking of the strongest characters in “One Piece” is Sabo, also known by his alias “Flame Emperor.” He is the chief of staff of the Revolutionary Army, recognized as the number two of the entire organization, outranked only by Monkey D. Dragon, its Supreme Commander. Likewise, he is also the sworn brother of Monkey D. Luffy and the late Portgas D. Ace.
9. Trafalgar Law
What an interesting name. Well, Trafalgar Law is also one of the strongest characters in the series.
Known by his full name, Trafalgar D. Water Law, as well as his epithet, “Surgeon of Death,” he does live up to these names. He is a pirate from North Blue (an ocean in the story) and the captain and doctor of the Heart Pirates (a rookie pirate crew from North Blue).
During the timeskip, he became one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, but this position of his was revoked after he allied with the Straw Hat Pirates. Trafalgar Law, like many other pirates, dreams that one day, he’ll find the One Piece while also desiring to know the purpose of the Will of D., a mystery surrounding characters with the initial “D.”.
