Ubisoft Announces Plans To Create NFTs and Blockchain Games

Ubisoft has stated that it intends to build blockchain games as well as non-fungible currencies.

According to the International Business Times, the company would include blockchain technology in future games. It will also include play-to-earn methods, which allow gamers to gain content through playing Ubisoft games.

During a recent earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot noted, “As you can see, our sector is changing on a regular basis, with a lot of fresh revolutions happening.” “Blockchain is one of those revolutions,” says the author. It will suggest more play-to-earn, allowing more people to earn and own content, and we believe it will significantly boost the industry.

So we’ve been dealing with a lot of small businesses that are using blockchain, and we’re starting to get a decent sense of how we can influence the market. We aspire to be one of the most important players in the area.”

According to IBT, Ubisoft has been researching blockchain for years. Its Strategic Innovation Lab, in particular, has been looking into its use since 2018.

According to The Verge, blockchains and NFTs are partly to blame for continuous environmental damage due to the millions of carbon dioxide emissions generated by cryptocurrency mining and use.

As a result, some large players have questioned their growing use in a variety of industries, such as Steam, which will not allow developers to publish “applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow trading of cryptocurrencies or NFTs.”

Others, like Epic Games and its digital storefront, are fine with working with blockchain developers, despite Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney saying just a month ago that the company wouldn’t be “touching NFTs” because the “whole field is currently tangled up with an interactable mix of scams, interesting decentralized tech foundations, and scams.”

Ubisoft appears to be following Epic Games’ lead rather than Steam’s. Only time will tell how the company will do.
