Zombies are not often the most pleasing creatures in video games (maybe except those in “Plants vs. Zombies”), but you have to encounter them in games like “Resident Evil” to progress. However, you will gasp and jolt when you see them on your screen, making it a challenge to really defeat them, the PVP Live team can attest to this. Yet, there are games centered around these creatures, so why not develop a love-hate relationship with them?
This year is abundant with several videos that are new to the senses, including zombie games that will turn your surroundings into a graveyard, like how Taylor Swift introduced herself in her music video, “Look What You Made Me Do.” Are you curious about which zombie video games should be on your bucket list for 2025? Read on!
New Zombie Games
‘Hunger’
No other zombie game can bite as intense as “Hunger.” From its title alone, you know things will never be the same. Its storyline is inspired by the Black Plague in human history, but the developers made it grimmer and alternate.
Players are still brought to the site of the Black Plague, Europe, but those who the plague has victimized turned into zombies, so casualties doubled, tripled, and quadrupled.
You play the role of the survivor, so you must find a way to survive this Black Plague-stricken world. You can use weapons to battle enemies and then search nearby lands to find ways to keep moving forward. Life is tough but more strenuous when you’re facing death.
‘Dying Light: The Beast’
Here, you don’t play as the survivor but as the zombie yourself. Interesting! Your role is Kyle Crane, a man who has saved several people in the games previously in this series, but this time, he was captured and experimented on for a decade. He has managed to escape, but he’s got a change of heart. He wants to ruin the people who experimented on him. Yes, revenge.
As he journeys across, he then finds survivors of the apocalypse he sees as help for him. With his zombie powers, he tears through enemies and makes life a nightmare for them. Don’t perish in the game, of course, or the fun will stop.
‘State Of Decay 3’
While not really a completely new video game because it is new only in this game’s series, “State of Decay 3” will indeed introduce brand-new attributes. But those are speculations so far. Though a reveal trailer was released officially years ago, its content cannot tell what is about to happen, so there are collectively no new updates.
However, gaming media are saying there will be a multiplayer option, but all you have to do now is wait for some big news. Hopefully, this fantastic game, listed at the top of zombie game lists, will launch this year.
‘God Save Birmingham’
Have you ever wondered what zombie worlds looked like in the early Renaissance? Then, play “God Save Birmingham.” Imagine battling zombies without the guns of today. How can you manage to survive? Thrilling.
Here are more games you might want to take a look at or keep playing:
Zombie PC Video Games
‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’
This game is only partly a zombie video game, and if you don’t want to miss the zombie action and thrill, check out the round-based zombie horde modes. Even though it’s just part of the whole experience, it is like the whole game in itself. Zombie fans love the modes’ campaign and multiplayer mere bonuses, fresh stories, new equipment, and Easter eggs, even if it isn’t always Lenten Season. Plus, access questlines straight from the game’s map, with some quests that can even be tear-jerkers. A must-try.
‘Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster’
Players who want to feel the nostalgia of the PC gaming experience and take a breather from the modern-day consoles must play this video game. It’s a remastered game that takes things to the next level.
Its story revolves around a freelance journalist named Frank West, who finds himself trapped inside a mall filled with aggressive zombies. West only has 72 hours until the hordes of zombies arrive, so he must find a way to escape and uncover the truth behind the zombie apocalypse. But his work does not end there. He must also rescue survivors along the way. Sounds like a roller coaster ride? It is.
Free Zombie Games
You will not always have the budget to invest in big-time zombie games. But, if you want to experience zombie gameplay that others are getting hold of, you can check out these zombie games for free:
‘No More Room In Hell’
Creepy as it sounds. Indeed. This free-to-play cooperative FPS survival horror mode for the Source Engine focuses on you surviving a zombie universe. There’s a co-op mode comparable to a survival horror game rather than FPS, but the features of this genre are there.
There will be several missions where you can accomplish objectives while trying to avoid getting infected by zombies. It’s all about teamwork, so you must alert your teammates if you become infected. That’s the best choice, but you may also strategize to keep quiet. It’s not bad at all as speaking up will make you noticed.
‘Z1 Battle Royale’
There’s a battle royale game you can play for free? Yes, there is, and it’s not just your typical battle royale game, but a zombie battle royale video game. “Z1 Battle Royale” is highly competitive, free-to-play, and a single-elimination battle royale shooter. Don’t feel overwhelmed, but you go start with as many as 150 other players navigating a 100 square-kilometer map. Whoa. Think quick, or you’ll yield to death.
Aside from the usual battle royale, there’s also the Auto Royale mode comparable to side quests in games like “Hogwarts Legacy” or driving a taxi in “GTA” games. Enough to break the ice. Playing this battle royale video game will make you forget you never spent a dime accessing this.
