Frostpunk 2 Revealed With New Bloody Trailer

11 bit studios has announced Frostpunk 2 and published its first official teaser, two months after originally teasing the project on Twitter. Frostpunk was initially published in 2018, and it was a huge success for the indie company (although 11-bit studios no longer call itself that), resulting in a slew of DLC releases since then, the most recent of which was On The Edge in August 2020.

Frostpunk 2 was first teased in June, when 11-bit studios tweeted a piece of what is now the announcement video and promised further details on August 12. Now that the day has finally here, many Frostpunk fans will undoubtedly be eager to get their hands on a copy of the sequel.

The original game has sold over 3 million copies between PC and console sales as of April 2021, thus it’s not unexpected that a sequel exists in some way. Frostpunk challenged even seasoned city-builders, and Frostpunk 2 promises to deliver the same degree of both entertaining and nerve-wracking gameplay.

11-bit studios published the Frostpunk 2 teaser, and “players are once again charged with acting as the leader of a resource-hungry metropolis,” according to a press statement. However, the game includes a “new multi-layered society” and a shift in concentration from coal to oil.

The announcement teaser features a bludgeoned, frozen guy amid a series of oil wells, emphasizing both the need for oil and the increased level of brutality that comes with it in Frostpunk 2. The trailer focuses on the loss of optimism that the first game explores extensively.

Players can expect “a broad universe of choices,” according to Frostpunk 2 Co-Director Jakub Stokalski, which will allow them to experience considerably more flexibility in how they “shape the society and the city any way they see fit…” He also mentions a new struggle, which he refers to as “the battle between mankind and their nature.”

While it has been demonstrated that a single person can build city-builders, Frostpunk’s popularity has given the team “additional personnel available to work on all parts of the game,” thus in addition to new features, Stokalski guarantees fans that the overall quality of the game will improve.

Frostpunk 2 isn’t the only product to emerge from the popularity of the previous game; a Frostpunk board game is presently under development. The game was completely financed in less than an hour on Kickstarter, and it has now received almost $3 million from nearly 19,000 different supporters.

While this only touches the surface of Frostpunk’s fan base, it’s a strong indicator of the game’s widespread popularity. Because the game will be free to try on Steam until August 16th, it may attract even more attention.

Meanwhile, Preestablished fans may look forward to a sequel that appears to be pretty exciting. More of the same would probably suffice to satisfy fans, but based on the initial Frostpunk 2 press release, it appears that players will have a lot more to look forward to.

“We want to accomplish more than just a straight-up sequel,” says the team. “What we want to provide gamers is an experience that is far superior to the original Frostpunk,” Stokalski explains. While this is exciting news for fans of the original game, they will not be content until they have a chance to play Frostpunk 2 for themselves.
