Iron Thorns is a Paradox Pokémon, and in “Pokémon Scarlet and Violet,” catching this pocket monster is tricky and toughest. This Pokémon is the Paradox version of Tyranitar, and it is fearsome, elusive, and version-exclusive.
Who Is Iron Thorns?
Iron Thorns is a Paradox Pokémon. Looking like the futuristic, cyber version of Tyranitar, this Pokémon has a sleek, metallic body laden with sharp edges, green and black shades, and glowing red accents, giving it a robotic and intimidating aura. Its design also has angular spikes and an overall mechanical aesthetic that can remind you of a prehistoric creature, but it’s never prehistoric.
It is a dual-type Rock/Electric Pokémon with offensive solid abilities, combining its Electric attacks with its Rock-based moves. Its distinct typing gives it an advantage over several opponents, particularly those who crumble to Rock and Electric moves. Its high attack stats fused with its diverse move set make Iron Thorns a formidable presence in battle, somebody to beat, capable of using its strengths to the fullest to defeat foes. It is techno, so it is strong.
Read on for the guide on how to catch Iron Thorns in the game.
Catching Iron Thorns In ‘Scarlet’
Iron Thorns is exclusive to “Pokémon Violet,” which is why the only way to give yourself this in “Pokémon Scarlet” is by trading with a friend, a “Violet” player. Since it is very possible to find more than one Iron Thorns, it wouldn’t be a difficult task to catch this creature in “Scarlet.”
How About Catching It In ‘Violet’?
It is in “Pokémon Violet” where you will have to follow some steps to catch the elusive Iron Thorns. To start, proceed to Area Zero, outside Research Station 2, as this is where it spawns and where you can catch it. However, this pocket monster only spawns in a small space, particularly uphill from Research Station 2. Nearby the lab, you can find a cliff dressed in gravel.
Here, though you will usually find gangs of Mukrow and Honchkrow, Corviknight, Talonflame, and Iron Moth, Iron Thorns makes a rare spawn in this area. Simply run around this vicinity to try and force – yes, you must force – Iron Thorns to spawn. Otherwise, picnic and make a sandwich that increases the encounter rates for Rock- or Electric-type Pokémons like Iron Thorns.
The widely recommended sandwich recipe is the Great BLT Sandwich. To make this, you need some Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Mustard, Mayonnaise, and Basil. Consuming this before entering Area Zero will have you stumbling upon some Iron Thorns almost right away.
“Pokémon Scarlet and Violet” takes place in Paldea, an in-game region inspired by the Iberian Peninsula. The game features an open world. Play it on your Nintendo Switch.
