Recent updates improved network configurations, enabled TouchID and Face ID on iOS, and expanded Chromebook functionality. Android no longer has the Camouflage feature.
Avast
Anyone interested in computer security will recognize the name Avast. The Avast Antivirus app is a full-featured package that includes virus scanning and protection, backup options, power-saving features, and anti-theft features.
You can remotely lock or wipe your smartphone, listen in on it, or take a “theftie” of the criminals who stole it. You can also enable stealth mode on your device so that the thief is unaware that Avast is protecting your phone. Avast also offers SIM card change notifications and locking for Android, Mac, and PC, as well as similar services for Android, Mac, and PC. As a paid premium service, Avast provides an all-in-one package for device protection from viruses and thieves.
Lookout
Lookout provides security, tracking, and antivirus or malware protection all in one package. The ability to record a phone’s last location just before the battery dies, the ability to back up contact data before a remote erase, and the ability to snap a photo of any would-be thief and email it to yourself along with location data are among the highlights.
Lookout’s Safe Wi-Fi and System Advisor features protect against Wi-Fi attacks and check your device to ensure the operating system is functioning properly. It’s free, but you can upgrade to Premium for $30 per year for features like safe browsing and breach reports (which send you alerts if a company, service, or app you use reports a data breach), or Premium Plus for $100 per year for features like identity theft protection and lost wallet recovery.
Find My Device
Find My Device is a feature available to Android users. It connects to your Google account and can locate any device associated with it because it is a Google service. There are also options for locking your device, remotely resetting your PIN, and erasing saved data.
You can even add a recovery message or phone number to the lock screen to increase your chances of retrieving it, or instruct your device to play a sound if it is nearby. Versions that have been updated include support for indoor use, which can help you find your device in airports, shopping malls, and other large buildings.
Find My iPhone
If you have an iPhone, you can use the Find My iPhone app to locate it. This feature has been included in iOS since version 5, so no download is required. It works with iCloud, so you can access it from a browser or another iOS device, and the location of your missing device will be displayed on a map, with the option to show where it has recently been. If the phone is lost forever, you can remotely lock it, display an emergency message, or erase stored data.
Find My Friends
Find My Friends is one of our favorite apps for tracking people’s whereabouts. It is available for both iOS and Android devices. Although the two apps aren’t created by the same company (Apple creates the iOS version, which is also available on the Apple Watch), they provide roughly the same service.
The apps allow you to track multiple people at once, which is helpful when trying to meet up with a large group. Find My Friends for Android is also compatible with the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, and feature phones.
The app uses cell phone signal triangulation to find people and makes it simple to share one’s location. Send a text invite to a non-smartphone user, and when they respond “yes,” their icon appears on the app’s map.
