There are two major kinds of anime viewers. One comprises those who will look at the character’s profile, story, personality, and backstory without looking at their physical attributes. The other group comprises fans who will be particular about the character’s looks that they won’t bother to focus on a character whose appearance does not match their tastes.
But that’s what makes animes exciting, right? It’s a plethora of fashion and style, like food, on a buffet table. In this story, you’ll delve deeper into the odd and whimsical fashion of Obanai Iguro of “Demon Slayer.”
The Character
Iguro was a Demon Slayer part of the Demon Slayer Corps as the Serpent Hashira, standing among the mighty Hashira. His cynical personality has made him infamous and notorious in the Slayer Corps, often criticizing the new Corps members for being weak, even if they are not. He has romantic feelings for Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira, and quickly gets jealous of those who get near her.
Iguro’s Style Profile
Short in height but with a fairly muscular physique, he dons a straight-edged, raven-black hair of various lengths in the anime, with the longest reaching down his shoulders and the shortest cut at the level of the cheekbones.
Are you wondering why the color of his eyes is like that? He has heterochromia, which means his right eye is yellow while the other is teal. Unfortunately, he is partially blind, barely able to see from his yellow right eye.
Around this mouth, he wears a facemask-like bandage, but for a practical purpose: to hide his facial scars. If you’ll bother to read on, his family horrifically cut open his mouth. Yikes.
He wears a black-and-white striped haori. There are also bandages around his calves, and he has a pet white snake named Kaburamaru, wrapped around his shoulders.
Why So?
Facemask-Like Bandage Around His Mouth
As you learned earlier, the mask around his mouth is a testament to his family’s dark, twisted past. Iguro was born in a clan that worshipped a snake-like demon. Wait until you read this. His corrupt and evil family pampered him, but in a cell to please the demon they serve. The demon had protected them, nonetheless, so Iguro’s family would sacrifice him in exchange for the demon’s continued protection. The women of his family slit his mouth to mimic the jaws of the reptile-like demon.
Pet White Snake
He was able to escape from his family and the horrors, and ironically, with the company of a small white snake, Kaburamaru, who never left his side. They became inseparable, with the latter serving as Iguro’s guide in battles, such as helping this blind character “see” Muzan Kibutsuji’s attacks. This bond between him and his pet snake underlines themes of resilience and survival.
With those information, you can appreciate Iguro more as you watch and follow the anime. Even if Iguro has a rather odd style, he has a personality that every “Demon Slayer” fan will remember and cherish. Stream the anime now.
