Battlefield 6 Is Franchise’s Largest Game Yet, Launching Holiday 2021

Battlefield 6 will have the biggest scope of any title in the long-running franchise and is scheduled to be launched in next year’s holiday season. Publisher EA Games announced that the next game in the Battlefield franchise would be launched next year after it revealed that Battlefield 5 and Star Wars Battlefront 2, both developed by DICE, would be getting their final content updates before this year ends.

The latest game in the franchise, Battlefield 5, was tarnished with problems from the day it was launched. The game not only felt unfinished, with its tiny map roster and an overabundance of glitches but succeeding updates were extremely inconsistent and most pledged features never came into the game such as its 5v5 competitive mode.

Even its take at a battle royale mode, called Firestorm, wasn’t safe from its own set of problems. The life cycle of Battlefield 5 was so chaotic that its final content update was launched just last summer, more than a year before the upcoming game in the franchise is expected to launch.

With the release of the next-gen consoles, it appears like DICE and EA are expecting to revive the Battlefield franchise. In EA’s most recent earnings call, the company CEO Andrew Wilson provided several information on some of their plans for 2021 and beyond.

Based on the report, the next Battlefield game is currently in development at DICE and will feature “never before seen scale.” Wilson also added that the next-gen consoles are providing the studio the chance to produce their “next-gen vision” for the franchise.

“DICE is creating our next Battlefield game with a never-before-seen scale. The technical advancements of the new consoles are allowing the team to deliver on a true next-gen vision for the franchise. We have hands-on play testing underway internally, and the team’s been getting very positive feedback on the game as we’ve begun to engage our community. The next Battlefield is set to launch in holiday 2021, and we are excited to share a lot more about the game in the spring.”

According to Wilson, Battlefield 6’s internal playtesting is already ongoing and that response on the game has been all positive so far. With the title set to release sometime later next year, the company is planning to share more details of its next Battlefield game in spring next year.

According to EA, Battlefield 6 will be one of six next-gen games, which also includes a new Need for Speed game, which the company intends to release during its 2022 fiscal year, which runs between April 2021 and March 2022.

It’s irrefutable that Battlefield 5 was the most frustrating addition in the franchise for a lot of fans, and both DICE and EA have a lot to prove with Battlefield 6 if they plan to make up for all of its ancestor’s flaws.
