Beat Saber Multiplayer Mode Now Available On PSVR

Beat Saber was a significant draw in attracting fans into VR for a long time. The ability to swing lightsaber blades to the beat of popular music is a significant draw in and of itself. After a year of waiting, a feature that was previously available for the rhythm and music VR game on PC via SteamVR and Oculus is now available for PlayStation VR users.

Beat Saber was published on May 1, 2018, and developer Beat Games Studio has continued to support the game with free content and updates for the past two and a half years. On Twitter and the PlayStation Official Blog, Beat Games announced the availability of the new multiplayer function, saying that fans could start playing right away. While the new multiplayer feature is available as a free update, it will require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play.

After a disheartening Beat Saber multiplayer delay, fans were pleasantly relieved to see that the multiplayer option is now available. Last year, the PC version of Beat Saber’s multiplayer game was released, and it included crossplay features.

At the time, Beat Games said it was “exploring what’s possible.” While there is presently no crossplay between the PSVR and PC versions, today’s tweet also stated “currently not supported,” suggesting that Beat Saber’s cross-play between the PC and PS4 versions may come at a later date.

Beat Saber for PSVR will receive all of the same upgrades that SteamVR and Oculus users have been receiving for the past year. Quickplay or a private server can now be used to join multiplayer matches with up to five total players, and that’s only the beginning. After a game, the update will feature all player stats, as well as a winner standing on a podium (and a fireworks display). After the match, multiplayer badges will be awarded in categories ranging from most exact to slowest.

Beat Saber also released a Halloween special as part of this update. Jaroslav Beck has released a brand new free tune called “Spooky Beat,” which will be set in a Halloween setting. Fans will be able to customize their avatar’s colors in order to stand out in the looby and multiplayer arenas. Any song from the Beat Saber PSVR soundtrack, as well as the newest Halloween song and DLC music packs from artists like Linkin Park and others, can be chosen.
