Recent rumors suggest that Samsung might launch its next-generation foldable phones earlier than expected. Now, we got a date.

Usually, the South Korean multinational company unveils new Galaxy Z series phones in August every year. But according to a recent news report from South Korean publication Chosun Media, two of the biggest announcements during the Galaxy Unpacked event this July 26th would be the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold 5.

Now that is two weeks earlier than Samsung’s usual announcement time frame for its foldable phones. Moreover, unlike previous Galaxy Unpacked events held in Barcelona in Span, or New York or San Francisco in the United States, this upcoming launch event will happen in Seoul, South Korea.

Are you excited? Let’s look at what we know so far about these foldable phones’ features.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5

For the design, early reports and rumors say that the Galaxy Z Flip5’s cover display will be shaped almost like a square, then covering more of the gadget’s “lid.” This larger cover screen should give users easier access to more One UI features and increase the phone’s usability when folded shut. Furthermore, Samsung might keep the same hinge design as before.

For the specifications, sources say that Samsung will develop three storage variants for this phone, specifically 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. Plus, like the Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy Z Flip5 will feature faster UFS 4.0 storage. However, since Samsung does not make UFS 4.0 chips for devices with a storage capacity of less than 256GB, the 128GB variant will instead use UFS 3.1.

For the display, the Galaxy Z Flip5 may have the most extensive cover display among the rest of the foldable flip phones. Also, the panel could feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.

For the camera, things are still unknown as of press time. For the software, Samsung might release the Galaxy Z Flip5 with a newer version of One UI running out of the box. It could be One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13 or One UI 6.0 based on 14.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Now, let’s head to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. For the display, the device might be wider than the previous units. Second, it may adopt a teardrop hinge and eliminate the gap between the two halves once the phone is folded shut. Do you ask about the S Pen? Well, some say it will have, while others say it won’t.

For the specifications, speculations say that Samsung will offer its Galaxy Z Fold 5 in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage variants. It will also use the UFS 4.0 storage specification, which offers higher transfer rates than the current UFS 3.1 solution. Also, the phone might use a chipset Qualcomm developed.

As for the display, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5’s cover screen may be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 or a newer solution that has yet to be revealed.

For the camera system, things are still bleak as of now, even in rumor mills. But, it has been said that the phone may feature a 108MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 64MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom features.

For the software, the company will probably launch this phone with a new version of One UI, perhaps One UI 5.1.1 (or an upgraded version) or One UI 6.0.

The two phones could go on sale this August 11th.
