Instant messaging, such as this feature on iPhones, has allowed people to connect and interact with others like never before. This time, you can now text using your Windows 11 PC as you would do on your iPhone.

In such a revolutionary move, Microsoft on Monday fully rolled out a feature that will allow for the syncing of calls, contacts, and messages, including iMessage support, between an iPhone and PC.

“We are pleased to announce that Phone Link for iOS is now available to all Windows 11 customers,” Windows said in its official blog post.

Windows added that Microsoft Phone Link for iOS on Windows 11 has started to roll out to audiences worldwide in 39 languages across 85 markets.

Recently, they announced that Windows 11 was expanding its Phone Link feature to foster more connection between a Windows 11 PC and an iOS mobile device, thereby removing all barriers between phones and PCs, and making it easier to connect with others seamlessly.

This means that if your phone is away from you during a presentation or while you are at work using your Windows 11 PC, you can receive notifications on this PC and choose which action to take – all on your Windows 11 PC.

How to get started with this new, awesome feature

To get started using this new feature, search for “Phone Link” in your Windows taskbar. After launching the app, you will be required to set up some things on both devices.

First, choose iPhone as your device type. Then, use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code found in the Phone Link app. The devices will then pair over Bluetooth. You will also need to confirm various permissions on both iPhone and PC.

This new feature supports all iPhones running iOS 14.0 or later.

Limitations

However, those who have started using this new feature of Phone Link for iPhone noticed there are limitations. These limitations are not found when using Android phones.

First, though the feature supports iMessage syncing, it does not yet work with group chats, or sending images and videos. Furthermore, voice messages and iMessage apps also do not sync.

Nevertheless, this new feature is a helpful way to save you from constantly switching between your PC and iPhone.

Background

Phone Link has been around since 2015, particularly when syncing Android devices. However, this is the first time it has supported iPhones.

Late last February, Microsoft did a phased launch with select Windows Insider preview testers. Then, around last month, the company started rolling out general availability, promising this would support all Windows 11 users by mid-way.

Just in time, right? So, what are you waiting for? Try this new feature today.
