PVP Live has been committed to sharing the team’s takes on the endings of, not the most popular and biggest movies per se, but films that are instead, controversial. In today’s edition, you’ll check out the ending of “Blade Runner 2049.”
What ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Is About
“Blade Runner 2049” is the sequel to the “Blade Runner” movie in 1982, which was then set in 2019, then a dystopic future of Los Angeles, wherein synthetic humans known as replicants are bio-engineered by the evil and influential Tyrell Corporation to work on space colonies. A certain Roy Batty leads a fugitive group of advanced replicants as they escape back to Earth to find burnt-out cop Rick Deckard, reluctantly agreeing to hunt them down.
“2049” is the sequel, released in 2017, an epic neo-noir sci-fi movie. However, since the gap between the two films is so huge, just like “Gladiator” in 2000 and “Gladiator II” in 2024, the story of this “Blade Runner” sequel does not happen right after the events of the prequel unfolded. However, Deckard and Gaff are back with the addition of K, a “blade runner” who discovers a secret threatening to destabilize society and civilization’s course.
The movie was directed by Denis Villeneuve, who referred to a screenplay by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green based on Fancher’s story.

What Happened In The Ending?
During the last moments of Blade Runner 2049, Gosling’s K collapses in the snow, perishing from his wounds sustained in battle, but not before completing his mission and revealing to Deckard the true story of his own past. At the very end of the movie, Deckard reunites with Ana Stelline, his long-lost daughter, in a heartwarming and emotional scene.
The Ending Of ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Explained
The ending of this film is probably one of the most poignant in movie history. The paragraph above is just the surface. To elaborate further, K finds out that Stelline is Deckard and Rachael’s daughter, but she was hidden to protect her own existence. Although Gosling’s character initially thinks he might be the child, he realizes Stelline is crucial to a new replicant revolution.
In the film’s climax, you can recall K saving Deckard from the forces of Wallace, to the point of faking the latter’s death to protect the girl. The mortally wounded K takes Deckard to Stelline’s facility, reuniting both of them for the first time. A heroic act, indeed. There’s also this artistic scene where K lies in the snow, at peace as he has fulfilled his life’s mission. The ending succeeded in evoking deep emotions without overly expressing them on visuals.
You can experience the movie by streaming it now on Apple TV, Google Play, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Microsoft, and YouTube.
