On Thursday, voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and instant messaging social platform Discord unveiled its all-new in-app Soundboard that users can utilize in voice channels.

“Today, in an ensemble of duck quacks, trumpets, and air horns that go BRR BRBRBRRRR, we’re introducing Soundboard: a new way to react in Voice channels with sounds curated by your community,” Discord said in its official blog post. “At launch, Soundboard can only be used or managed on desktop. However, mobile users can still hear any sounds you play so they’re in the loop when a HONKHONK happens.”

This new Discord feature will be rolling out over the coming weeks.

Soundboard is a voice channel feature that lets users play a short audio clip that all participants in the same voice channel can hear. Much like Super Reactions and Reactions, Soundboard is a way for you to express yourself and react to the voice channel’s conversation or Go Live stream, Discord stated.

Here’s how to use Soundboard

To use Soundboard, users must proceed to any Voice channel in their server, and they will see a new button next to Activities that looks like a music album. When they click on that button, the Soundboard panel will show up.

In settings, you can reduce the volume all the way down if you wish not to hear sounds from Discord Soundboards. Plus, you can also limit who can use Soundboards on their server, Discord added.

Mixed reactions

In the community, while others say this new feature is a “blessing” and are even posting memes about how they feel about this, some are not quite happy about it.

Over on Twitter, netizen @yandereprincess said, “discord soundboard is a blessing. every time this pops up its the wrong incorrect buzzer super loud”

Meanwhile, Twitter netizen @im_mooham said Soundboard is the “greatest feature ever.”

They wrote, “discord adding soundboard gotta be the greatest feature ever (emoji)”

“WHY DID DISCORD ADD A SOUNDBOARD THIS IS FUCKING AWFUL IN THE BEST WAY,” posted @Rayan_Iolanthe

“adding a discord soundboard is the worst thing they’ve ever done like this is worse than the nfts,” said @jamsjeIIies.

But regardless of what the community thinks, Discord will be rolling out this feature very soon. Brace yourselves.

“We hope your server’s Soundboard grows to become an essential part of your community’s creativity and expression,” Discord said.
