“Star Wars” original series on Disney+ “The Mandalorian” is rife with several interesting characters. So many interesting people deserve their spotlight as if they are in the leading roles. Among them is Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, played by actor Ahmed Best, who is essential in the story as he saved Din Grogu. Let’s get to know him a bit better in this piece.
Who Is Kelleran Beq?
Kelleran Beq is a highly skilled Jedi Knight known as “The Sabered Hand.” In the story, his trademark is that he was instrumental in saving the young Grogu from the Jedi Temple on the terrible night known as Order 66.
Order 66 is like the Spanish Inquisition in human history. It is a military command in the Star Wars universe that identifies every Jedi as traitors to the Galactic Republic and orders their killing.
Now, Beq was often assisted by AD-3, a protocol droid, and LX-R5, the astromech droid, serving aboard the Athylia starship. Sometime in 22 BBY, Jedi Master Beq worked in the Jedi crèche, responsible for tending the temple’s younglings.
In Operation: Knightfall in the story, or the siege of the Jedi Temple, he triumphantly escaped the temple with the help of the members of the Royal Naboo Security Forces, helping Coruscant escape together with the young Grogu.
Award-winning actor Best also portrayed roles in movies such as “Lean on Me” – which is his first in 1989 – “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” and “The Pink House,” as well as in TV shows such as “Robot Chicken: Star Wars” and “Law & Order: LA.” In other words, even if he had other shows, “Star Wars” is what he is most widely known for.
Why Is Beq Important?
Without Jedi Beq, you wouldn’t be able to see the journey of Grogu as you see now. Somehow, he was a hero for Baby Yoda.
Aside from the fact that his character is significant in rescuing Grogu away from trouble from Order 66, which highlighted his skills and commitment to protecting the Jedi and perhaps the entire Star Wars universe, his appearance is also significant for the resurgence of the prequel era, providing viewers a bridge connecting the past and the present “Star Wars” narrative. Furthermore, his role enriches the Star Wars saga’s depiction of resistance and survival.
