When it comes to crossovers and collaborations, Fortnite is no stranger. The term has become almost synonymous with bringing a slew of other franchises and IPs to the island over the last several years. While Fortnite’s tendency to cooperate with external groups continues, the next one may leave some gamers perplexed: premium fashion company Balenciaga.
Last week, Epic Games’ enduringly popular free-to-play battle royale game began its eighth season. The new season has a revamped quest UI as well as the Season 8 Battle Pass, which includes a diverse cast of characters.
Fortnite’s newest Battle Pass focuses on unique skins, with Marvel’s Carnage serving as the sole big crossover skin. While Season 8 doesn’t look to be as character-crossover-heavy as previous seasons, the collaboration with Balenciaga might be the answer.
“Digital Fashion” is coming to Fortnite, according to a blog post on the official Fortnite website. Players will be able to access a range of authentically designed Balenciaga skins and cosmetics beginning September 20 at 8 p.m. eastern.
Ramirez, Doggo, Banshee, and Game Knight are all dressed up in the latest pieces from the high-end fashion house, with a stylish streetwear vibe. In addition to the four skins, four Balenciaga Back Bling bags look to complement the outfits. The Speed Sneaker Pickaxe, Parasail Purse Glider, Signature Look Wrap, and The Look Emote are also available.
Fortnite players may discuss and show off their style in the new Strange Times Featured Hub, in addition to receiving Balenciaga cosmetics. The Bizarre Times Hub takes participants into a strange metropolis, replete with a virtual Balenciaga store, in a manner similar to the NBA Creative Hub earlier this year.
Players may hang out with fashion-forward pals, alter their style using Changing Booths, and even purchase Balenciaga Fit Outfits from the virtual store from September 21 to 28. Strange Times will also be blanketed with billboards featuring contestants in the current Fortography challenge.
While it’s apparent that Balenciaga is coming to Fortnite, Balenciaga is also coming to Fortnite. The Fortnite x Balenciaga collection debuted today, offering gamers the chance to rep their game with some high-end clothing, which they are.
A Fortnite cap costs $395, a t-shirt $495, and an oversized fit jacket costs $1,290. Even a basic white jersey will set players back $1000, so gamers should start putting money down now if they want a piece of the collection.
While Fortnite’s cooperation with a high-end fashion house may sound strange, it’s not as strange as Balenciaga’s video game Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow, which was published to promote its apparel line.
