HP is reportedly slated to launch new and improved gaming laptops this June 22nd.
These gaming laptops are specifically OMEN 16 and Victus 16, which are part of the company’s popular sub-brands.
New, improved gaming laptops
What are the new and improved features to expect from these gaming laptops?
Reports that broke the news about this launch said that the laptops would feature 16.1-inch panels, similar to those on the current generation of HP laptops. However, the media’s sources also indicated that the new HP OMEN would be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, weighing only around two kilograms and having a thickness of under 20 millimeters.
Furthermore, the brand-new HP OMEN is also said to feature the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 series GPUs, an upgrade from the RTX 3000 series GPUs present in the current generation. The reports also assumed these new laptops would come with 13th Gen Intel processors.
There will also be upgrades to their cooling technologies. The new laptops are said to feature a newly designed airflow system with a square venting design to facilitate air circulation better. Plus, the top hinge truck is said to have been redesigned to be able to open without blocking the vents found in the rear, thereby enhancing airflow.
The software will also get an upgrade. For one, the HP OMEN Gaming Hub will feature a brand-new battery-saving mode with more customizations, ensuring gamers a more personalized experience.
HP OMEN and Victus are two of the company’s sub-brands. They each come with features that ensure gamers get the best experience when using these laptops.
However, HP has not released any official statement regarding this, except that they will be live streaming the event this June 22nd, where these laptops are said to be launched.
Other HP news
Meanwhile, in other HP news, the company issued its quarterly HP Wolf Security Threat Insights Report last week, wherein it warned of threat actors hijacking various users’ Chrome browsers when they download renowned movies and video games from pirating websites.
HP’s researchers discovered that the Shampoo Chrome extension is difficult to wash out. This extension is the means the ChromeLoader malware uses to peril the users’ systems.
They also found that the attackers bypass macro policies by utilizing trusted domains. Specifically, attackers compromise a trusted Microsoft Office 365 account, set up a new company email, and distribute a malicious Excel file that infects the victims’ systems with an infostealer.
Moreover, the researchers also saw how Microsoft OneNote documents and its features, like acting as digital scrapbooks, are taken advantage of by attackers to embed malicious files hiding beneath fake “click here” icons. Users who click that icon get the malware, which then gains access to their systems and sells whatever information they acquire to ransomware gangs and cybercriminal groups.
“To protect against the latest threats, we advise that users and businesses avoid downloading materials from untrusted sites, particularly pirating sites. Employees should be wary of suspicious internal documents and check with the sender before opening,” said Patrick Schläpfer, the HP Wolf Security threat research team’s malware analyst.
