Apple first officially unveiled its new iOS 17 during its WWDC 2023 event earlier this month. Some features that iOS 17 will bring include personalizing your phone calls, live voicemail, all your iMessage apps in one place, search filters, the ability to read an audio message transcription, and so much more.
“iOS 17 brings new features to enhance the things you do every day. Express yourself like never before when you call or message someone. Share content in convenient new ways. And do even more with new experiences for your iPhone,” Apple said on its iOS 17 preview’s official page.
But, things are bound to get even better and more exciting as recent news outlets revealed that iOS 17 would also make it easier for iPhone users to scan QR codes, something that is a bit of a hassle in previous iOS’.
QR codes are widely used, especially today. These images of tiny squares colored black and white are everywhere – in shopping malls, restaurants, stores, name it.
These QR codes are two-dimensional scannable barcodes invented in 1994 by Denso Wave, a Japan-based company, initially for labeling automobile parts. When scanned using a device, usually a smartphone, a QR code contains information specific to the labeled item.
For instance, if you wish to learn about the new product you bought with a QR code attached, you can scan it and get the details instantly.
Now, with iOS 17, it is easier to scan these QR codes.
Apple first introduced QR code scanning with the iPhone’s Camera app in iOS 17. However, during that time, the URL link that the QR code generated appeared like a push notification at the top of the user’s screen.
This got revamped in iOS 13 when the company redesigned the QR code scanning so the link would appear as a yellow button within the camera’s viewfinder instead of appearing like a push notification.
But this created a new problem. The button would rove around the viewfinder, especially if the camera lens is also moving, making it harder to scan a QR code.
Things are about to change with iOS 17 (well, hopefully). News media said that when you scan a QR code using an iPhone with iOS 17, the link button automatically appears at the bottom of the Camera interface, making it easier to find and tap.
iOS 16 is capable of placing the QR code link at the bottom of the Camera interface. However, you must still move the camera so the QR code is no longer within the shot.
Well, you just have to wait for the arrival of iOS 17 later this year when you no longer have to perform that additional action just to position the QR code link on a place easily tappable.
