The existence of pirate RPG King of Seas isn’t really new information, as the game was already announced in the past, but today is a significant announcement date for the upcoming title. The reason for this is that the game’s developer, 3DClouds, has finally confirmed that its publishing deal with Team17 pushed through.

This is wonderful news for both the developer and for the fans who have been patiently waiting for King of Seas’ release. Not only will it mean that 3DClouds will have the extra resources to refine and enhance the RPG so that it reaches the players’ expectations, but the title will also be translated to other languages, including German, French, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

In case you’re not familiar with the upcoming title, King of Seas is best described to be a “non-traditional RPG”—although, this isn’t exactly a new gameplay mechanic. This kind of RPG has already been around for a while now, and many other video games utilize this form as well.

Electronic Arts Explains Reason for Glu Mobile Acquisition

Electronic Arts recently acquired Glu Mobile for $2.1 billion. If you’re fond of playing mobile games or simply just browsing through your App Store or Play Store, you might have come across this name once or twice. Glu Mobile is an American developer and publisher, releasing games such as Disney Sorcerer’s Arena, Diner Dash, and Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.

Electronic Arts already has a pretty packed roster of mobile gaming studios, as developers such as Chillingo, Track Twenty, Capital Games, and PopCap Games are also under its wing. Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson said that it decided to acquire Glu Mobile simply in order for Electronic Arts to further capitalize on the mobile market—much further than it already has at this point in time.

Wilson said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that “mobile is the biggest platform in gaming today.” He saw the potential that this industry has, especially in terms of capitalization, so he quickly grabbed the opportunity by acquiring various studios, including Glu Mobile.

Wilson further explains that with Glu Mobile, they “have an opportunity to bring together teams with complementary product portfolios and capabilities that will lead to even more great games.” The CEO also shares that the company is aware of the many possibilities that mobile gaming can offer, and Electronic Arts wants to “be in a position to lead.”

Wilson’s statement is actually quite familiar at this point, as what he’s saying now is similar to his statement back then when Electronic Arts also acquired Codemasters. During a Q3 financial report, the publisher simply stated that it wanted to utilize Codemasters’ expertise in the racing genre to be one of the leaders in the industry in terms of racing video games.

This leads us to the question: what can Glu Mobile offer the publisher? Well, Wilson says that Glu Mobile has different resources that the publisher wants to make use of. With the help of the newly acquired studio, Electronic Arts hopes to “grow their existing games, create amazing new experiences, and bring them to more players.”

At this point, it’s quite clear to see that the publisher is focused on dominating the mobile gaming industry, and it probably plans on acquiring even more big-name studios in the future in order to achieve this goal.

It has also been confirmed that none of Glu Mobile’s existing projects will be affected negatively by this acquisition, and most importantly, no employee will be laid off as well from Glu Mobile as it finalizes its transition. Electronic Arts will definitely benefit greatly from this decision, as Glu Mobile’s Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, among others, is a highly lucrative mobile game.

As briefly mentioned, Electronic Arts also acquired Codemasters and its myriad of racing games in the past, and this particular deal is already in its final stages. The publisher acquired this studio for $1.2 billion, and this was recently approved through a shareholder vote.

All Electronic Arts has to do now is make the Codemasters acquisition official in the eyes of the court to make the deal secure and final.

Kiss Confirmed Mode To be Added in CODBOCW For Valentine’s Day

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is commemorating Valentine’s Day, and revamped game mode will be introduced as part of the celebrations. The mode arrives in a couple of days, and it will see Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War players collecting something other than dog tags while playing Kill Confirmed.

This is not the first time the game is seeing a few seasonal changes made to Kill Confirmed. During the Halloween season in Call of Duty Modern Warfare, dog tags became skulls. A suitable change for the scary setting, the small graphic change kept the seasonal theme alive – and it appears developer Treyarch took inspiration from Infinity Ward’s holiday setup.

The Team Deathmatch alternative will see players confirming kills by picking up candy hearts instead of the usual dog tags, with an official blog post featuring the hearts in action. As is tradition with the mode, enemies will drop red hearts while teammates will drop blue ones.

With a signature “Be Mine” text on the candy hearts placed on the revamped tags, the large sweets look much like they do in real life, and they should be fun for all Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War players to hunt down.

The exclusive game mode goes live later this week, which is the typical time for game mode updates in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. It will run until February 18, giving players an entire week to try the new playlist.

In the middle of its duration, players will be provided access to a Double Weapon XP weekend. From February 12 until February 15, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War players can rank up their guns quickly via Kiss Confirmed and the other game modes currently active in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.

Harvest Moon: One World Demo Showcases Several Regions

Fans of the Harvest Moon franchise were recently diving into the demo for the upcoming Harvest Moon: One World, and there’s one gameplay feature that was highlighted in the aforementioned demo. Specifically, the feature that was shown off is the game’s multiple regions, and what’s interesting about this is the fact that each of these unique regions can have its own farms.

When Harvest Moon: One World was announced, many were understandably skeptical about its quality, especially when compared to other farming sims that have grown popular over the years like Stardew Valley and Story of Seasons.

Many fans of the farming simulation genre criticized Harvest Moon: One World because of its similarities to Story of Seasons, believing that the developer simply copied from the franchise in an attempt to earn money from its popularity without providing genuine quality.

However, we can see that Natsume has definitely been hard at work in enhancing the quality of One World since the game’s first trailer was released. Now, it appears that the upcoming video game will be incorporating interesting new gameplay mechanics.

Various videos and content revolving around Harvest Moon: One World’s demo have been circulating online recently, and perhaps one major addition to the game that many have highlighted is its multiple regions, which, apparently, were based on real-world areas.

Specifically, Harvest Moon: One World will have 5 different regions, namely the Halo Halo island inspired by Hawaii, the volcanic region called Lebkuchen, the snowy village Salmiakki, and the grasslands area Calisson.

Players will be able to explore each different region, but there’s more to Harvest Moon: One World than that. The exciting part is that players will be able to create farms in each one, and they’ll have special characteristics given the fact that each region is also distinct. To make things easy for the player, they don’t have to create individual farm buildings for each region. In fact, they can simply pick up these buildings and then transfer them to another area.

However, it’s worth noting that this only applies to the buildings. The crops that players plant onto certain regions will stay there. Harvest Moon: One World will also feature crop variations. For instance, planting a tomato in the snowy lands of Salmiakki will result in a frozen tomato sprout. We’re definitely interested to see what kind of recipes can be made from these different variations, or if their prices vary as well when sold.

Of course, given that Natsume has put a special emphasis on exploring different regions in this game, players can expect other gameplay mechanics as well, including weather conditions.

Weather conditions will affect the player character similarly to the way it affects Link from Breath of the Wild in that they can cook and eat hot meals in order to stay warm in the cold, snowy locations. The Monster Hunter franchise has a similar mechanic as this as well, although it will no longer be present in Monster Hunter Rise.

In any case, Harvest Moon: One World is set to release next month on March 2, 2021, so get ready for more farming action!
