In gaming, you have the so-called overpowered builds. Defined, overpowered builds invalidate almost every other build by some margin. Thus, using them can give you a really good advantage.
In animes, there are also overpowered characters. But they have a negative connotation at times, dreaded because they are protagonists who can do more. Why bother enjoying a story when characters are already at the top of their game, right? It boomerangs negatively instead of what you think.
So, let’s go ahead and check out the most popular overpowered characters in anime, beginning with Zeno of “Dragon Ball.”
Zeno Of ‘Dragon Ball’
You know how the Dragon Ball franchise is jam-packed with notoriously strong fighters and characters, such as Son Goku and Broly, among others. However, there’s a character in “Dragon Ball” who is noticeable because of his overpowering nature. He is Zeno. Even the gods of destruction, such as Beerus, are no match for this all-powerful being ruling the entire Dragon Ball multiverse that it already appears so odd.
Zeno does not even need to exert his effort and fight. He can instantly wipe out anything in front of him, from a person to a planet of a galaxy far away or even an entire universe. He is too strong, he makes the story boring already.
Vash The Stampede Of ‘Trigun’
What more if that overpowered character is the main protagonist, right? Such is the case with “Trigun’” Vash the Stampede.
Vash is the epitome of an overpowered character who either gets to save the world or manages to destroy it, a reason why others might fear him.
Nicknamed the “Humanoid Typhoon,” Vash can destroy a whole city with his supernatural powers. And when he is genuinely provoked, he can use his abilities and skills with guns to overcome almost any threat that comes his way. But many fans love Vash, nevertheless.
Anos Voldigoad Of ‘The Misfit Of Demon King Academy’
Another popular overpowered anime character is Anos Voldigoad of “The Misfit of Demon King Academy.”
In the story, he was once a Demon King, but he later gave up this privilege so he could bring peace to the universe with his life placed at stake. But, he only became more potent upon his reincarnation. Yes, he was alive again to gain and retain power that could overcome the world where he lived.
Furthermore, Voldigoad could defeat the most powerful Gods like solving a one-plus-one math problem, and he could also bestow absolute power to anybody he adored and take it away if he desired. Did you know he could also lift a castle and spin it on his finger like somebody does with a basketball? Unbelievable.
Rimuru Tempest Of ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime’
“That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” is an anime notorious for starring one of its genre’s most overpowered anime characters, the blue-haired Rimuru Tempest.
Tempest was once a salaryman in Japan – just like most people – but he was stabbed to death only to be reborn in a fantasy realm as a slime, the weakest of RPG monsters.
He is a slime but super powerful. That makes this overpowered character even more interesting. He has an attack known as Predator, where he envelopes an object or enemy with his slime body, absorbing it completely and its powers to be his own.
Simon Of ‘Gurren Lagann’
On his own, Simon, the protagonist of “Gurren Lagann,” is just an innocent, flesh-and-blood young man, but in the cockpit of his overpowered superpower, he is certainly the strongest. Unparalleled.
His greatest superpower is the Super Tengen Toppa Giga Drill Break, which discharges a gigantic spiral energy blast that follows the shape of a drill, hence its name. It is an oh-so-powerful attack that can eradicate all of reality, literally.
Yhwach Of ‘Bleach’
In “Bleach,” there’s a character dreaded because of his abilities, Yhwach. Called “Your Majesty” by his constituents, he is the Wandenreich’s emperor and the Quincy’s progenitor. The Wandenreich is a hidden empire of the Quincy, a race of spiritual beings.
Also referred to as Quincy King and Father of Quincy, Ywach is also the son of the Soul King and bears the monicker A: The Almighty. Hey, his name sounds like Yahweh, the God in the Bible, right?
Yhwach is already enormously influential with his capabilities, but with The Almighty, what he can do is beyond reality already. The Almighty allows him to see through futures and parallel realities to foresee and avoid any attack, or transfer to another reality to prevent any mishap. Kind of hard to believe.
Haruhi Suzumiya Of ‘The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya’
Haruhi Suzumiya, the titular character in “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,” looks blameless, she is blameless – a seemingly average high school girl with brown hair and a bright yellow ribbon tied around her hair. She runs SOS Brigade, a school club that aims to locate supernatural occurrences.
But, her hidden supernatural abilities are what make her overpowered. Jean Grey or Magneto may be cringing right now, but Suzumiya is known for her Reality Manipulation as her most powerful ability. This allows her to inadvertently bend and alter the very fabric of reality in her favor, and even will it into existence!
Other popular overpowered anime characters include:
- Saitama of “One-Punch Man”
- Sung Jinwoo of “Solo Leveling”
- Satoru Gojo of “Jujutsu Kaisen”
- Griffith of “Berserk”
Previously, PVP Live shared a story about the strongest characters in anime of all time. But, the definition of “strong” there differs from its definition here. Talking about overpowered characters, we pertain to characters with nearly impossible-to-believe abilities that they can make the stories of the animes where they are in bland and boring. Either you love them or hate them.
