Previously, here on PVP Live, you learned about every known member of the Twelve Kizuki in “Demon Slayer.” While these vicious characters are capable of casting their Blood Demon Arts, it is the Upper Moons who are the most powerful and ferocious. Here’s a look at the six Upper Moons in the anime.
Upper 1: Kokushibo
We’ve talked about Kokushibo in our other stories here. He is the number one and most powerful Upper Moon of all Upper Moons in “Demon Slayer.” His six orange eyes characterize him, and he also eerily resembles the anime’s main protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, particularly with his red-tipped hair and face marked with a flame.
Kokushibi’s story is profound, but to avoid spoilers, we just recommend that you watch out for his connection with the Demon Slayer Corps, especially with Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira.
One of his most remarkable powers is his stunning mastery of the Breathing techniques that the Hashiras use, making him extremely powerful.
Upper 2: Doma
The Upper 2 Moon is Doma. If you look at his photos, you won’t easily discover that he is evil. But don’t let his charming looks fool you. For one, he runs a cult that worships him as a god. He is an adorable god with his sleek hair, cute beret, and wit that can easily make fans fall in love. However, he’s not popular, unlike the other Kizuki. Be sure not to miss his rivalry with Akaza as you watch the anime.
Moreover, he is known for his deadly connection with one of the main characters in “Demon Slayer.” His Blood Demon Art is a superpower that deserves your notice in the show.
Upper 3: Akaza
Then, we have Akaza. As you watch preview clips online, you’ll see Doma and Akaza, with one seemingly being the devil’s advocate for the other. Or should we say rivals? Akaza claimed the life of the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. The way he was introduced in the series is quite epic.
Akaza doesn’t play a major role in the Swordsmith Village Arc in the manga, though he gets very involved in the following storylines. He likes to highlight his strengths but dislikes weak people. This causes him to find himself in brawls with other strong Demon Slayers.
If Doma is a cult leader, Akaza was a passionate martial arts fighter when he was still human. He is also known for his incredible durability and regenerative powers, which are tougher than those of the other Kizuki. These were because of the significant amount of Muzan Kibustuji’s blood in him.
Upper 4: Hantengu
One of the first scenes where you saw Hantengu was when he was hanging out on the stairs of the Infinity Castle. Hanging out on the stairs? That’s too angelic for such an evil being like him. He stands out for his ability to manifest clones of his younger self. Each of these clones embodies a distinct emotional state from his past. These younger bodies of him are more frightening.
Don’t miss out on his tragic backstory, which greatly defined who he is today as an Upper Moon. Here’s a clue: he lived with trauma.
Upper 5: Gyokko
Gyokko is quite funny. He’s a horrific little guy who resides in a vase. But don’t underestimate this life as his physicality is incredulously so intimidating as where his eyes should be are his mouths, and he has multiple doll-like hands along his arms and back. His primary trait is that he’s an artist.
You’ll see that he’ll be at odds with the artisans of Swordsmith Village, especially Hotaru Haganezuka, whom he sees as his rival. Artistic differences? Probably.
One of his abilities is creating grotesque tableaux with his victims’ bodies. He’s also quite obsessed with his vases and has terrifying summoning abilities.
Upper 6: Daki And Gyutaro
Last is a duo. While Daki and Gyutaro were former Upper Rank demons, they deserve a place here on this list because of their impact on the anime’s story.
Their backstory is quite dramatic, as they were brother-and-sister abused and neglected, pushing them to roam the streets of the Entertaining District when they were still humans. Later on, Doma turned them into demons. The only way to defeat the duo is to behead their heads simultaneously.
“Demon Slayer” follows Tanjiro Kamado, a teenager who strives to become a Demon Slayer after seeing his family slaughtered and Nezuko, his younger sister, is turned into a demon.
