New Tomb Raider and Avatar The Last Airbender Mobile Games Being Developed

According to reports, Square Enix is developing two mobile games based on the Avatar: The Last Airbender and Tomb Raider brands. The Tomb Raider series of action-adventure platformers first debuted in 1996, and the most current installment was released in 2018. While Avatar: The Last Airbender has yet to receive a significant video game adaptation, characters from the renowned series appear as playable fighters in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

With its family-friendly tone, interesting world, and powerful elemental bending, Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise has grabbed the hearts of many fans. Despite this fascinating combination of traits, the series has yet to be adapted into a big video game.

The protagonists, Aang, Toph, and Korra, were just included in the Nicktoons crossover fighting game Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. The game features a variety of popular animated characters, ranging from Spongebob Squarepants to CatDog, with each character’s moveset paying homage to the show in which they appear.

Along with this fighting game debut, a tabletop RPG based on Avatar: The Last Airbender was recently funded on Kickstarter. Players will be able to immerse themselves in the rich universe of Avatar, which includes five different eras and an in-depth character development system.

According to IGN, Square Enix is working on two new mobile games that will bring the Tomb Raider and Avatar: The Last Airbender properties to phones everywhere. Square Enix London Mobile, a brand-new studio focusing on mobile games, is working on both games.

Square Enix London Mobile and Navigator Games, the creators of the turn-based role-playing game Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, are also working on the Avatar project together. This may imply that the Avatar game will also be a turn-based role-playing game. Meanwhile, the Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider Reloaded, is an action arcade game that was first revealed in 2020 and is set to arrive in 2022.

The Tomb Raider franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Starting with its initial trilogy and continuing into multiple sequels, the action-adventure franchise has seen protagonist Lara Croft fight and climb her way through a variety of archaeological expeditions.

The 2013 reboot, simply dubbed Tomb Raider, attempted to revitalize the series by adding more complexity to Croft’s persona and improving gameplay by giving players more options. The success of the game spawned two sequels, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which creates a modern trilogy. Crystal Dynamics recently debuted a video from Tomb Raider Ascension, a shelved sequel with unsettling monsters and a survival horror tone, in honor of the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

Square Enix London Mobile will soon offer two fascinating franchises to the mobile gaming market, with two mobile releases on the way. The Avatar: The Last Airbender game, which will most likely be a turn-based role-playing game, will introduce the beloved Nickelodeon franchise into the gaming world. Meanwhile, Tomb Raider Reloaded will be the iconic franchise’s first new game since 2018. Both of these prospective initiatives should be watched by fans of both series, as well as fans of mobile gaming in general.
