The first-ever Pokémon GO Championship Series will take place in 2022, according to developer Niantic. When the popular mobile game was released in 2016, it did not include trainer fights, but the game’s Pokémon combat scene has taken off since the traditional series element was added in 2018. Niantic launched the Pokémon GO Battle League last year, giving the game its first taste of ranked competitive gaming and allowing users to climb the ranks and earn rewards.
The current Season of Mischief in Pokémon GO also contains Season 9 of the Pokémon GO Battle League. The Season of Mischief has also begun its newest schedule of Pokémon GO events for the month of October, featuring new activities and raids in which players can meet many Ghost-types and other seasonally suitable Pokémon more often.
Niantic has announced the first Pokémon GO Championship Series will take place in 2022 in a new blog post. Participants in the new competitive ladder will compete in regional and worldwide competitions, with top-ranked trainers earning an invitation to the 2022 Pokémon World Championships. (It’s worth noting that the 2021 Pokémon World Championships were canceled this year.)
The Pokémon GO Championship Series tournaments will feature Senior and Master age classes, allowing people born between 2006 and 2009 and 2005 or earlier to register and compete. However, there will be no Junior category.
Pokémon GO players who want to compete in the first Pokémon GO Championship Series will have two chances to sign up. Those who have achieved Legend level in the current Pokémon GO Battle League season will be given the opportunity to join early. At the same time, lower-ranked trainers will be allowed to register later.
The initial set of Pokémon GO Championship Series tournaments will be open to both groups. Those who miss both initial registration chances will be able to participate in another set of activities during the next Pokémon GO Battle League season.
