PS5 Exclusive Marvel Multiplayer Game Reportedly In The Works

According to industry insider and XboxEra co-host Nick Baker, a new multiplayer game starring Marvel characters is in the works as a possible PS5 exclusive. It’s hardly unexpected that Sony and Marvel are working on another PlayStation exclusive, especially considering the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the latter of which sold 20 million copies on PS4.

The gaming cooperation between Sony and Marvel continues to grow, as demonstrated by the latest PlayStation Showcase, which revealed two new titles from the continuing collaboration. Thanks to an action-packed teaser starring Peter Parker and Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 dominated the show for a few minutes.

Much of the post-reveal attention focused on Venom’s appearance at the conclusion of the teaser, as well as fan theories positing Kraven the Hunter as the video’s narrator. Of course, the news that Insomniac is also working on a Wolverine game is still making the rounds.

Nick Baker, a reputable industry insider and co-host of the XboxEra Podcast has revealed further information on a prospective PlayStation 5 project. The insider claimed to have heard from a trustworthy source that “there is a multiplayer Marvel game supposedly in the works that will most likely be a PS5 exclusive” on Episode 76 of the podcast.

Baker stated his source requested that he provide basic facts to prevent any potential backlash, despite the fact that he had meant to provide more background. Baker’s additional statements suggest that neither he nor the source are certain which of PlayStation’s development teams is working on the rumored multiplayer game.

Although this story may not appear to be too far-fetched, it’s advisable to take everything above with a grain of salt. If such a project does exist, it’s impossible to say when Sony and Marvel will provide precise details.

The most fascinating element of this story is the alleged multiplayer component. PlayStation exclusives, as many people are aware, primarily include third-person, narrative-driven adventures. Sony, on the other hand, appears eager to focus more of its efforts on multiplayer experiences, given its partnership with IllFonic, the developer of Predator: Hunting Grounds, and its numerous agreements with third-party developers, such as Firewalk Studios, who plan to create experiences tailored specifically for online play.
