AMC CEO Adam Aron announced on Twitter that the theater company is still on schedule to add DOGE and SHIB as payment alternatives, with the release date set for “March.”
The movie chain began accepting bitcoins as payment last year. Customers may buy movie tickets with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin.
AMC’s CEO, Adam Aron, quickly announced that Dogecoin would be joining the lineup in the future. At the same time, Aron held a vote on Twitter, asking his fans if the theater chain should also accept Shiba Inu.
The poll received overwhelming support, and the CEO confirmed in November that SHIB would be available on the platform in “60-120 days” in partnership with BitPay. BitPay is a popular cryptocurrency payment processor that has added Shiba Inu as one of its options at Aron’s request.
Because the acceptance of SHIB and DOGE by the world’s largest theater chain is excellent news for the adoption of the memecoins, the community has naturally been eager about when AMC will finally begin accepting them.
In a tweet yesterday, Aron decided to break his quiet and respond to his followers who had inquired about it.
“I’ve been asked several times when AMC intends to routinely take Dogecoin and Shiba Inu for any and all payments made via the AMC website and mobile app,” Aron began. “I’ve been advised that we’re still on schedule for the projected Q1 deployment, with a precise date in March,” said the CEO.
The adoption of dog memecoins has recently gained traction. Last month, the tech-retail behemoth Newegg began accepting Shiba Inu as a form of payment. Late last year, Regal Cinemas followed in the footsteps of AMC by taking Dogecoin.
