Spongebob Squarepants The Cosmic Shake Coming To PC and Consoles

With the recent surge in popularity for remakes, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated was one of the most unexpected games to emerge from the current trend sparked by titles like Shadow of the Colossus and Resident Evil 2.

Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated revived one of the most beloved cult classic 3D platformers from the fifth generation of console gaming, even if it wasn’t flawless. THQ Nordic has announced that developer Purple Lamp Studios will return to Bikini Bottom for a brand new SpongeBob SquarePants 3D platformer, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, owing to the game’s popularity.

THQ Nordic stated in 2018 that it had purchased the video game rights to numerous Nickelodeon brands, including SpongeBob SquarePants, and that it planned to resurrect iconic titles from the IP’s history.

This sparked a flood of requests for a remake of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom, a collect-a-thon 3D platformer developed by Heavy Iron Studios for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube that had developed a surprising cult following thanks to its respect for the IP and general popularity as a respected 3D platformer.

Now that Rehydrated has generally received good fan feedback, developer Purple Lamp Studios is attempting to create a whole new 3D SpongeBob SquarePants title in the shape of The Cosmic Shake, which was unveiled at THQ Nordic’s 10th anniversary live stream.

SpongeBob and his pals will accidentally open portals to seven other worlds throughout the game, all of which are based on classic episodes from the long-running cartoon series. The announcement video for the game recreates the classic “Sweet Victory” sequence from Season 2’s Band Geeks, in which the characters play the song at a football stadium.

While the teaser doesn’t disclose much because it’s CG and doesn’t show actual gameplay, THQ Nordic has stated that SpongeBob and his buddies will travel between seven planets, with 30 cosmetic skins that will offer the developer plenty of opportunities to reference past and new episodes of the show.

The game looks to have a karate world, a world with the Flying Dutchman (in which SpongeBob appears as a snail, indicating that the player would be able to change like Banjo-Kazooie), and a wild-west world, according to the clip. Based on this, the game will most likely feature a lot of variety in terms of location.
