Video game director Yoko Taro is known for doing things his own way, and this brand-new event announcement for the Nier franchise showcases that perfectly. Based on a recent tweet made by the Nier’s official Twitter account, they’ll be participating in the online Tokyo Game Show 2020 event.
Join Yosuke Saito, YOKO TARO, Keiichi Okabe, Saki Ito from Toylogic, Daichi Matsukawa from Applibot, Takahisa Taura from PlatinumGames and Hiroki Yasumoto (JP voice actor for Grimoire Weiss) as they reveal the latest information about the #NieR series.

Square Enix named the first event as the “We Have a Decent Amount of New Info” special, and you can watch it on September 24 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET. On September 26 at the same time, they will have the second event which they named the “Mostly No New Info” special.
As mentioned in their tweet above, several people whom we know to have worked with Yoko Taro will also be present in the events. The release of Nier: Automata to the Western world brought success and recognition to Yoko. As a result, the Nier franchise diversified, although in a pretty confusing way.
That being said, we’re hoping that these upcoming events will offer new information on NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, which is an upcoming version of the original Nier game that will be playable on current gaming systems such as PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out the trailer for that below.
The announcement also implies that we’ll be getting information and updates regarding 2017’s Nier: Automata and Nier: Reincarnation, which is a mobile game that’s currently in the works and will supposedly have ties to the series.
Nier: Automata has been very successful since its release, so it’s pretty understandable that we’re expecting a follow-up game sometime in the future. After all, the title sold over 4.5 million copies. Given what we know about Yoko Taro though, a sequel to Nier: Automata probably wouldn’t be a direct continuation to the game.
That said, we’re definitely excited to see what these upcoming September events have in store for us. Don’t forget to mark your calendars!
