Star Wars: The Old Republic was released before to Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars franchise, yet it is still going strong today. BioWare has published a new 4K remake of one of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s first trailers in an unexpected move.
It’s hard to imagine, but this year marks the tenth anniversary of Star Wars: The Old Republic. The popular MMORPG expanded both the mythos and gameplay of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games, allowing players to design their own characters, from Jedi to bounty hunters to Sith, and immerse themselves in a galaxy far, far away like never before.

In the grand scheme of things, The Old Republic has an odd position, having been one of the final games launched prior to Disney’s acquisition of Star Wars, and being jam-packed with narrative and content that has been canonized to various degrees. As part of the anniversary of The Old Republic, BioWare announced the release of Legacy of the Sith, a new expansion for the game.
The Deceived cinematic trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic has been remastered in 4K by BioWare. Blur Studio created the trailer, which was first shown on June 1, 2009, more than two years before The Old Republic was officially released.
Darth Malgus—a popular but currently non-canon Sith lord—assaults the Jedi temple on Coruscant, slamming a ship full of Sith troops into the temple, resulting in a magnificent but chaotic conflict between the evil and the light in the trailer. This trailer presented genuine Star Wars spectacle that had not been seen in years at the time, with the Star Wars films having been completed.
Blur Studio is as well-known as it is today thanks to its work on these The Old Republic trailers. Decieved is visually appealing to this day, with beautifully-realized models and settings, as well as animations and tempo. BioWare intends to re-release the rest of The Old Republic’s trailers in 4K, including the Hope trailer, which was created by Blur Studio. Since then, Blur Studio has worked on a slew of additional titles, including Halo 2: Anniversary’s updated cutscenes, Halo Wars 2, Titanfall, and a slew of others.
With the Legacy of the Sith expansion and these remastered trailers, BioWare appears to be spoiling its fans this year. Star Wars: The Old Republic is still worth playing ten years later, thanks to BioWare’s continuing support, which contrasts with the difficulty of some of Star Wars’ other video game undertakings, such as the lootbox issue in Star Wars Battlefront 2. If The Old Republic isn’t your thing, there are plenty of alternative Star Wars games to play right now and in the coming years.
