Xenoblade Chronicle 2’s Pyra/Mythra Arriving to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The next DLC character to arrive in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been revealed and they are Mythra and Pyra from the hit RPG game Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The upcoming fighter will be the fourth character to be featured in the second Fighter Pass and the tenth DLC fighter in total, as they are classed as a single fighter.

The DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate faced a letup in interest when Min Min from ARMS, Fire Emblem: Three Houses’ Byleth, and Terry from King of Fighters were revealed. These followed on from the hype of Banjo-Kazooie, Hero, and Joker.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate won its fan base back with the arrival of Steve from Minecraft, and again when Final Fantasy 7’s ultimate villain, Sephiroth, joined the expanding roster of fighters. Two more characters will come to the game soon, once the next fighter arrives this March.

Nintendo unveiled a few minutes ago during its latest Direct Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s Mythra/Pyra are arriving at Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the next DLC fighter. They will be arriving in the game this March.

The trailer began within the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 world, implying that it was an expansion or sequel to the game before divulging into the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate world. Based on the trailer, players can switch between Mythra and Pyra with just the simple push of a button, similar to the Pokemon Trainer.

The two fighters have unique capabilities, with one being remarkably strong while the other being fast. They each wield a sword in battle and they have the ability to hit enemies with blasts of energies, suggesting a lot of flexibility in their range.

The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 stage involves flying high on the back of the Azudra dragon, with characters from the title hanging out in the background, in an identical manner to the stage for Hero’s Dragon Quest XI.

Fans might be surprised why Rex, the main hero of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, wasn’t chosen, but he was likely considered to be too similar to Shulk in terms of gameplay. Similar to Min Min from ARMS, a lot of fans anticipated Xenoblade Chronicles 2 characters to come first, as they were from some of Nintendo’s first big games.

It appears that those representatives were pushed back to the second Fighter Pass. It remains to be seen whether players will take to yet more anime-inspired sword fighters.
