You know Eren Yeager as the virtuous main character of “Attack on Titan,” especially for the sake of his family. But did you know he has his evil side? It’s vicious you’d want to cover your eyes. Let’s go explore in this PVP Live story.
What Is Yeager’s Personality Like?
Yeager would do everything for his family. He is best described as a stubborn and impulsive son, yet strong-willed and passionate – attributes of his determination to safeguard humankind and, of course, his loved ones. Even as a young boy, he was so eager to join the Survey Corps Military branch that he argued with his mother, but of course, he was doing it for his family.
He cares deeply not just for his friends but for his family, too. He can risk harm and even death to protect them. A hero, indeed.
Why Does He Have His Bad Side?
Like the yin and yang, Yeager has a bad side, like everybody. Because of his goals, he becomes a calculated manipulator who literally won’t stop until they reach them. His friends would sway him to change this side of him, but he would keep fighting for what he believes is right.
He is the anime world’s Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. He has accomplished good things and terrible stuff as well, but he can justify his actions as necessary to protect humanity.
The Baddest Moves Of Eren Yeager
If “Attack on Titan” were to have a Prison of Azkaban, Yeager would be jailed here. Here are the most evil acts he has committed:
Yeager Initiated The Rumbling
Since childhood, Yeager has wanted to free himself from the shackles of being stuck on Paradis Island, so he joined the Survey Corps. Little did he know that this led him to a dark path. With the whole world targeting his home, he realizes that he has to exert more effort.
After gaining the power to wake up the Colossal Titans, Yeager was able to release them into the world and then direct them to Marley, taking this opportunity against Paradis. However, he also wants to destroy Marley. This molded him into an emotionally detached hero with no patience. In other words, the Rumbling happened because of him.
He Manipulated His Father
Interestingly, even if Yeager is a family-oriented guy, his evil side can make him turn against his family. Well, not in the baddest way, but to manipulate them, like what he did to his dad.
He influenced his father, Grisha, to steal the power of the Founding Titan. The “Attack on Titan” hero traveled back in time using the ability of none other than the Attack Titan to subtly manipulate Grisha, pushing him to act toward the destruction of the royal family and transfer the Founding Titan’s power to himself.
Hesitant and morally undecided at first, Grisha acted under his son’s emotional pressure. This kin-to-kin manipulation changed the course of history and stripped Grisha of his agency, showing Eren’s evil goals are separate from his goals for his family.
He Showed His Hatred For Mikasa Ackerman
Just a tinge of hatred is already evil in itself. While Yeager is trying to find his brother, Zeke, he learns the whereabouts of his former buddies and decides to do some interrogation to get some information. Initially, he cares for Ackerman, but later on, he displays a different feeling toward her.
He tells her that the sole reason she has been fighting by his side is because of her blood, which means that any feeling she has for him is a product of her bloodline. He even is proud of his hatred toward Ackerman, which is somewhat cruel.
His Siding With Zeke Also Made Him Evil
Zeke was regarded as the source of the misery in Paradis. Therefore, it is uncharacteristic for his brother Eren to side with him on this one. However, it was later revealed that Eren was just using his brother to get what he wanted, the way he sided with Zeke was like what you see in TV drama when the villain would hug another person, but would make an evil grin behind. This alliance had affected his friends.
Here’s the context. Eren distanced himself from his closest acquaintances to gain his brother’s trust and even built a fence, declaring them enemies. He also started a group of rebel soldiers, the Yeagerists, tasking them to commit terrible things. He believed this act was imperative to protect his homeland. But still evil.
He Attacked Armin Arlert
In an effort to prevent his buddies from making ties with him, Yeager arrives at the decision that the best action to take is to cut connections with them. He then makes the move, and meets up with Ackerman and Arlert, scolding them for the actions they did for him. Worse, he calls Ackerman an enslaved individual.
This enrages Arlert, so he punishes Yeager, now his ex-close friend, but Yeager responds with even more vicious attacks. Mercilessly, he abuses Arlert while taunting him for his weakness. He isn’t satisfied to just keep a distance from his friends, but he wants to deal with them harshly.
He Asked Historia Reiss To Devour Him
Another evil act of Yeager was when he requested Reiss to eat him to inherit the Founding Titan. Yeager proposed this initially for goodness, to protect her, as the royal family’s bloodline could control the power of the Titan.
However, this plan would just condemn Reiss to live a short life due to the Titan’s curse while using her bloodline to further Yeager’s personal motives. Evil, right? His willingness to sacrifice her future for his hidden agenda reflected the cold calculation behind his action, revealing that his dark side and its actions could go at the expense of even his close friends and family.
Wrapping Up
So why did Yeager embrace his evil side? It could be traced to his past experiences. Yeager was a former member of the Survey Corps, as of the story this time. He resided in Shiganshina District with his mom and dad until the fall of Wall Maria, when he impotently became witness to how a Titan ate his mom. This evil act led him to foster an intense hatred toward the Titans, sweating to wipe them all from the face of the Earth.
