The third season of “The Rising of the Shield Hero” has released its first trailer, which revealed that its premiere would be this October 2023. As of the exact date, no official details are available yet as of this moment.
Aside from the first trailer, the anime also unveiled a new key visual. It features the main characters in the design, together with a text that reads, “Our regrets make us stronger.”
The first two seasons of “The Rising of the Shield” premiered in 2019 and 2022, respectively. Major anime streaming platform Crunchyroll announced previously during last year’s Crunchyroll Expo that it will stream the upcoming third season.
The director of Season 3 is brand-new. It is directed by Hitoshi Haga, who was also the assistant director of “Made in Abyss.” Takao Abo from the first season and Masato Jinbou from the second season will not be returning to direct.
There are also new staff members for the third season of “The Rising of the Shield Hero.” These include “Bocchi the Rock!” animation director Franziska van Wulfen, and Sana Komatsu, who are both credited for character designs with the previous seasons’ Masahiro Suwa.
Composing the music of the series is Keigo Koyanagi. Meanwhile, Kevin Penkin will be the music composer.
Kinema Citrus, the anime’s animation production company, shares series composition and scriptwriting credits with Koyanagi. However, Season 2’s co-production company DR MOVIE is no longer listed in the main animation production credits.
The “The Rising of the Shield Hero” anime is based on the Kadokawa-published light novel series from the writing of Aneko Yusagi and the illustration of Seira Minami. It started in 2023 and has 22 volumes as of 2019. The books are published under the MF Books label.
The anime adaption of the third season will begin in the 10th volume. It tells about Naofumi Iwatani and his friends returning safely to their world after finishing a battle with Kyo. Also, the queen of Melromarc wishes to reward Iwatani for saving the world from the Spirit Tortoise.
After thinking about what he could do for his friend and partner, Raphtalia, Iwatani decides that establishing their own settlement would be the best thing for their future. So, he decides to build it on the ruins of his partner’s old hometown. This then starts the adventures of the heroes in “The Rising of the Shield Hero.”
“The Rising of the Shield Hero” started as a web novel on Shousetsuka in Narou in 2012. In 2014, a manga adaptation by A. Kyu began. The series has been adapted into a stage play, video games, and more.
