Isn’t it so fulfilling when you can interact with babies or just see them smile as you play with them? They’re just adorable. Now, you can apply and experience these precious moments in real-life on a game. What else? “The Sims 4”!
Before this new feature was introduced, gamers complained about how babies in “The Sims 4” were essentially objects. They’re restricted to their bassinets, and options are limited when you yearn to interact with the baby.
But things have changed. “The Sims 4” has launched a life stage called Infants after an update last March. If you haven’t noticed this update yet, this is the perfect time to discover it.
First And Foremost, What Is The Infants Life Stage?
Infants are the Life Stage in the game that follows the Newborn Life Stage. Here, caregivers look after the Sims as they learn to explore their world and form their own distinctive personalities.
Also, Infants are the age range just between Newborns and Toddlers. They represent a Sim’s’ early months of development, including learning to eat solid foods, crawl, and communicate.
Infants share roughly the same qualities as Toddlers, but the former is less independent, and adult Sims will need to assist them through almost all their actions and provide for their basic needs. Much like what happens in real-life, actually!
Now, here’s a guide to this life stage.
Aging Newborns Into Infants
Now that Infants is a Life Stage in the game, the timeframe of the Newborn Life Stage will have to be shortened significantly. After all, “The Sims 4” mimics the real world, right?
Remember that Newborns will age into Infants on their own, but you can manually age up Newborns into Infants early on.
Segue: Science Babies
Before we move on, let’s get to know another fantastic feature with this new update. If your Sim does not wish to adopt or doesn’t want (or can’t) go through pregnancy, there’s a brand new option for you. Sims can have babies from science! You read that right. They can now ask other Sims to use a mix of their genetic make-up to create new life. Amazing, isn’t it? Now, let’s continue with the guide, presenting the Infant Traits.
Infant Traits
As a Sim ages from a Newborn to an Infant, there are six traits for the new Life Stage, namely:
- Calm
- Cautious
- Intense
- Sensitive
- Sunny
- Wiggly
Consequently, these traits will impact how the Infant interacts and reacts to their environment. For instance, an Infant given the Cautious Trait may not like to try new baby foods at first.
Caring For Infants
Of course, you need to care for those Infants. “The Sims 4” is making this more meaningful. Your Sims can pick up Infants, feed them, breastfeed them, bathe them, and play with them. You may also pick up and keep holding the Infant while you do other actions. Plus, your Sim will automatically care for the Infant once it starts crying, making the gameplay more proximate to real-life.
Note, however, that if the Infant is left crying for too long or does not have their needs fulfilled, they will feel neglected. On the flip side, if your Sim is able to fulfill the Infant’s needs, they will form an attachment with you.
Infant Care Options
There is now a Baby Care menu that will provide many options for caring for and interacting with your Infant. Some of these options are:
- Bottle Feed
- Bounce
- Breastfeed
- Change Diaper
- Change Outfit
- Check Infant
- Clean Up
- Comfort
- Cuddle
- Feed
- Give a Nap
- Give Infant a Bubble Bath
- Introduce to…
- Play Peek-a-boo
- Pick Up
- Put in Crib
- Try First Baby Food in High Chair
- Plus, other Sims, like Children, will have an Entertain interaction with the Infant
Feeding Options
You can feed your Infants in the game in myriad ways. They are:
- Bottle Feed
- Breastfeed
- Try Baby Food in High Chair
Option To Breastfeed
With the new update, players can now toggle an option in the Create a Sims interface that determines, “Can this Sim produce milk?”
Toggling this on will allow that Sim to breastfeed an Infant. Cool!
Upgrade The Infant Crib
There are also new Infant cribs with the game’s recent update. These new Infant cribs can be upgraded with mobiles so your Sim can lull the Infant to sleep. You can also convert these cribs into Toddler beds once the Infant ages. But take note. This requires the Handiness Level 2 Skill.
Customization Options
To cap off this guide, we’ll also present customization options for your Infants. Isn’t the Create a Sim interface fun to play with, as it is like painting your Sim to what it will be throughout the game?
Believe it or not, your Infants are fully customizable in the Create a Sim interface! You read that right. There are dozens of Clothing assets for them, as well as customizations right down to their teeth and birthmarks. There are bucket hats, helmets, tuxedos, dress shirts, onesies, and dresses to unleash your Infant’s inner fashionista, even early in their life.
For Newborns, on the other hand, there’s a full range of skin tones, eye colors, and so much more, so there’s more customization for your Sims no matter what their ages are.
Conclusion
“The Sims 4” developers are constantly thinking of new ways to improve how you play this incredible game, such as introducing the Infants Life Stage! We hope this guide has helped you ease the burden of going through every new feature in this update. Keep enjoying “The Sims 4”!
