It’s Super Bowl season once again. Super Bowl LVII will transpire at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, this Sunday, February 12th. Aside from the actual sports match, spectators also look forward to the halftime show.
During the halftime show of the Super Bowl LVII, Barbadian singer, actress, and businesswoman Rihanna is slated to perform. But, a few days before this, a virtual stadium is set to host a show. There will be an event, “The Saweetie Super Bowl Concert,” within Roblox, featuring the titular rapper.
“I’m really excited to bring this iconic moment to the metaverse and share my music with a whole new audience in such a unique way! As an artist, innovator, and football fan, to be able to perform during Super Bowl LVII weekend in this new world – Rhythm City on Roblox – is something I never imagined that I would be involved in,” the “Best Friend” singer said in a statement. “I am very grateful and happy about this opportunity. I can’t wait for fans to experience what we’ve created.”
This virtual Super Bowl concert is the product of a collaboration between Warner Music Group, the NFL, and Roblox, together hosting the event in the recently-launched world in the metaverse, Rhythm City. Warner Music Group describes this metaverse hotspot as “a first-of-its-kind music-themed social roleplay experience on Roblox.”
The Saweetie Super Bowl Concert will kick off at 7 p.m. ET on February 10th, two days before the Super Bowl. This show will also be replayed every hour until Sunday’s Super Bowl. Moreover, a collection of digital items will also be available for purchase on the Roblox marketplace to commemorate the occasion.
This is not the first time these partnerships involving the metaverse have taken place. Last year, Warner Music Group also partnered with The Sandbox, a leading decentralized gaming virtual world and a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, to create the first music-themed world in The Sandbox gaming metaverse.
Roblox has also previously inked partnerships with many prominent partners. And thanks to Roblox, more young consumers can experience the metaverse, even if they do not realize it.
Rhythm City shares various features with other hangouts that brands have built in Roblox. This Warner-designed world offers a gamified experience coupled with collectibles. Here, visitors can play the roles of musicians, producers, agents, and influencers while snagging houses and cars.
The National Football League, or the NFL, is also set to add another interactive element to Super Bowl weekend as it launches Super NFL Tycoon, a separate workplace sim. With this, players can experience what it is like to be an NFL owner, minus the billions of dollars net worth however.
Saweetie is known for songs such as “Tap In,” “ICY GIRL,” and “Closer,” among many others. One of her remarkable performances was providing music to the DC movie, “Birds of Prey,” where she sang a rendition of “Sway With Me” together with GALXARA.
Saweetie was also nominated for the Best New Artist award at last year’s Grammys. She is signed to Warner Music. She is slated to perform in the concert via motion capture. Intuit will serve as the presenting sponsor of the show.
The Super Bowl is the annual final playoff game of the NFL to determine the league champion. It has served as the final game of every NFL season since 1966, replacing the NFL Championship Game.
