First-person shooter games are fun because they can make you feel like a skilled gunman taking down enemies to much of your abilities. There are FPS games based on real life, such as “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” inspired by military operations and “Battlefield V” set during World War II.
But, some FPS games would want to break the norms. In “Call of Duty: Black Ops III,” you can wield your gun to battle with zombies. Yes, zombies.
Battling with zombies at its plainest is already fun, especially that you’re talking about FPS games. However, to enhance your gameplay experience, you’d want to work on zombie maps.
Zombie maps can offer a more distinct gameplay experience compared to the standard multiplayer and campaign game modes. These maps offer a fantastic blend of survival horror, strategy, and cooperative dynamics, keeping your “Black Ops III” gameplay ever-fresh and engaging while you play. Here are the best zombie maps in the game.
Shadows Of Evil
This zombie map in “Black Ops III” is the first of its kind. Looking at its promotional images, you’ll find buildings with neon lights that say things like “Burlesque,” so it gives off some Moulin Rouge vibes. Well, here’s the context.
Its setting is fictitious Morg City, a 1940s world, which even further comes alive with its noir-esque aura, not to mention the Black Lace Burlesque Club, the Blazing Starlight Theater, and more. You’ll even feel the vibe as jazz music plays in the background.
Even more interesting is that Hollywood’s Ron Perlman, Neal McDonough, Heather Graham, and Jeff Goldblum are all playable characters on this map. They portray four sinners looking to resolve their crimes by fulfilling sacrificial rituals, but doing so instead triggers an apocalypse. They must find a way to prevent that from happening.
As you start playing on this map, you’ll be reminded of the feeling of traversing the world of Gotham in the “Arkham” games.
Der Eisendrache
From a French-inspired setting to somewhere snowy, but still nearby – Austria, particularly within Griffin Castle, which is a real-life castle, by the way.
This “Black Ops III” zombie map is perfect for players of all skill levels to enjoy, featuring various mechanics taking their cues from previous well-loved maps, such as Mob of the Dead, Origins, Moon, and Shadows of Evil. Some weapons from those maps, such as elemental weapons from Origins, are also here. If you’re feeding the Cerberus heads in the prison in Mob of the Dead, you’re feeding dragons in Der Eisendrache. Horror and fantasy rolled into one.
Revelations
If Shadows of Evil is the first-ever map, Revelations is the last. It features the last chapters of the legendary Primis story, celebrating everything zombies. Like Der Eisendrache, it also adopts various parts of the previous maps, albeit shattered portions.
Built from those foundations of iconic maps, Revelations features fun areas to explore. Why not, when it is one of the largest maps of the game? You’ll also get the chance to peruse several zombie equipment, as well as plenty of Easter eggs involving the overarching main story, plus secret weapons that can turn the tides against these zombie hordes. Think of powerful katanas. Be merry, as Revelations is a zombie parade.
The Giant
Don’t want a map that takes risks and wants something more classic? Then, The Giant is for you. This is a classic zombie map in “Call of Duty: Black Ops III,” notable for being the remake of the original Der Riese map from “World at War.”
Set in an abandoned and hidden German research facility, it takes you to a dark, atmospheric atmosphere that combines horror and mystery.
You’ll also encounter teleporters, a mystery box, and a Pack-a-Punch machine, critical elements from Der Riese. Featured characters include Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki, and Edward Richtofen. This design encourages strategic gameplay at its finest, especially with tight hallways coinciding with vast areas for battling hordes and hordes of zombies.
But wait, there’s more. The Giant also adds new surprise eggs and side quests, expanding on the map’s backstory and offering players tougher challenges. Its nostalgia is what draws “Call of Duty” players to want more.
Nacht Der Untoten
It’s another German-sounding map, but let’s see. If Shadows of Evil is the first map, Nacht Der Untoten is touted as the godfather of the Zombies mode. Though a simple map with tiny areas, it offers an excellent challenge for surviving high rounds. If you do, consider yourself lucky, as the spaces are so tight to move around.
Nacht Der Untoten has a remastered version. Aside from improved graphics with more significant details and textures, you also get improved lighting and audio, which add an even more haunting feel to the gameplay than how the original does it.
In addition, the map is much more alive, with realism taken up several notches higher, still apart from the perk machines and Gobbegum this map has. Whichever your play style is, this zombie map is your ally.
Origins
The premise for this Origins map goes like this. Following the destruction of the Earth and the Primis characters getting trapped eternally on the moon, the game’s developer made a landmark decision to reboot features from another timeline, focusing on World War I, and placing them side-by-side with giant robots and zombies – not just a typical zombie, but zombies in mech suits. Think of “Gundam.”
Last seen in “Black Ops II,” this map has been a fan favorite. Aside from featuring original and legendary “Call of Duty” zombies, it also features a revised story and gameplay, making everything more exciting. Now, “Black Ops III” gamers can experience what “Black Ops II” did with this map. You better try it to believe it.
“Call of Duty: Black Ops III” takes place in 2065 with a story following a group of black ops soldiers who must make their way out of the strongest of enemies. Experience it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
