WitcherCon Will Not Announce A New Witcher Video Game

According to CD Projekt Red and Netflix, the first-ever WitcherCon will not feature any information regarding a new Witcher game. On July 9, two different streams will be broadcast on the firms’ Twitch and YouTube accounts.

There aren’t many details yet, but CDPR and Netflix characterize WitcherCon as a “festival of The Witcher” with “surprises and exclusive first glimpses.” This contains behind-the-scenes material for both the games and other media, as well as glimpses into the live-action series and upcoming anime program The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

It’s unclear how much, if any, of author Andrzej Sapkowski’s original novels will be covered at the convention, though it’s sure to come up in parts discussing Witcher legend. Sapkowski had a tumultuous relationship with CDPR, but he did lend his expertise to Netflix’s TV program.

The official WitcherCon website states, “In case you’re wondering, no new Witcher game will be unveiled [at WitcherCon].” Because uncertainty regarding product launches helps to draw in audiences, event organizers rarely make such remarks upfront.

However, before E3 2021, some companies, including WB Games, warned spectators about what not to anticipate at the all-digital show. Backlash might also be a concern for CDPR and Netflix. Gamers regularly vent their frustrations on social media, and trolling campaigns are widespread, and such a reaction would overshadow WitcherCon’s genuine announcements.

Netflix will most likely take center stage since the second season of The Witcher is set to premiere later in 2021, and WitcherCon may be an excellent platform for announcing the release date, as well as cast and narrative information.

Given the popularity of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CDPR is almost likely planning a fourth Witcher RPG. On the other hand, the team is still working on fixing the glitchy Cyberpunk 2077 from 2020, as well as finalizing the game’s upgrade pathways for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

In February, CDPR was hit by a serious ransomware attack, which is thought to have compromised not just game data but also the personal information of certain personnel and contractors. If a Witcher 3 sequel was in the works, knowledge about it might have leaked online, prompting CDPR to make plot alterations in order to surprise gamers.

A new Witcher might be required to bring the company back on track financially. While CDPR or publisher CD Projekt isn’t considered to be in immediate danger, sales of Cyberpunk 2077 plummeted as knowledge of its broken status circulated and the game was briefly pulled from the PlayStation Store.

The game is mostly playable on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, but it suffers from low performance on PS4 and Xbox One. In reality, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are frequently regarded as being comparable to the game’s minimal PC requirements.
