Customers from certain states are now receiving emails from YouTube, notifying them of an impending bill increase for YouTube TV in the coming months. According to the email, the surge is caused by the company’s system changes involving tax calculations.
“We are writing to let you know that YouTube TV will be upgrading its internal system used to calculate the sales and use taxes applied to monthly subscription fees,” the email reads. “The upgrade may result in an increase in the required taxes applied to your monthly subscription.”
According to YouTube, it could implement the changes to some customers as soon as June 15 but noted that it could also manifest in some subscription billing no later than July 29. And as mentioned above, the increase would only cover certain states. As such, if your state is one of those who still haven’t received any email from YouTube, it is a clear indication you are safe from this hike. Nonetheless, as mentioned by Cord Cutters News, it is uncertain why the company is only making this significant change now, adding it could possibly be due to an error spotted or the company might just be “passing along these taxes to the customers now.”
