Many fans of popular TV series, not just HBO’s “The Last of Us,” would most likely also be interested to follow and get updated on where the show was filmed. Somehow, this adds to the experience of viewing their favorite shows.

Are you curious where HBO’s hit series, “The Last of Us,” was filmed? We take a look at some of these locations here in this new PVP Live article. We say some since it is a whopping 180 locations where this series was shot. Let’s begin.

‘The Last Of Us’ Season 1 Filming Locations

“The Last of Us” was filmed in Alberta, a province in Canada, between July 2021 and June 2022.

Before you raise your hand, yes, we get you. Originally, “The Last of Us” is set in post-apocalyptic United States, but for the production team, Alberta perfectly represents destinations from Boston to Kansas City to Wyoming.

Planning to visit these places? Well, don’t be surprised if you find them appearing not precisely as what you saw on screen. According to John Paino, the series’ production designer, many things had to be changed or decorated in some way.

Beachwood Estates In High River, Calgary, Alberta

Nothing could be more perfect to become a shooting location for this popular series than Beachwood Estates. True, the name sounds vibrant, but the community of Beachwood Estates is actually, well, doomed.

The once vibrant and lively place is now empty, and a ghost town. The boulevards are eerily quiet, as well as the dwellings, and by nightfall, there is total darkness in the area. Many of the fine homes here were already moved out or demolished, the streets torn up, and the land given back to nature.

Canmore In Alberta

For Jackson City, the place has to be Canmore. This town in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, west of Calgary, is known for craggy summits such as the Ha Ling Peak and the Three Sisters. At the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park nearby, the Grassi Lakes Trail weaves past a waterfall leading to two turquoise blue lakes. Many who head here enjoy cross-country skiing, mountain biking, and exploring a cave east of Canmore.

Waterton Lakes National Park, Also In Alberta

To perfectly depict Colorado’s White Silver Lake, the crew chose the Waterton Lakes National Park as their filming location. This hamlet and resort town becomes boarded up in the winter, making it a great place to film some of the scenes in the series. This was also where the wilderness scenes were shot.

Old Inglewood Brewery In Calgary

Closed for years now – adding to the horrifying effect – the tunnels underneath the Old Inglewood Brewery even add to it. It represents Kansas City in the story. Paino said, however, that they had to make some changes, particularly extending some of the tunnels and adding a huge swinging door like the one in the game. But overall, the place was eerie and perfect for the story.

Northland Village Mall In Calgary

If you are curious about where the scenes in the abandoned mall were shot, the place is the Northland Village Mall. It was constructed in 1971 and was being redeveloped when “The Last of Us” Season 1 was being filmed, so it was completely gutted. The crew had to build everything according to what are being required in the story.

‘The Last Of Us’ Season 2 Filming Location Confirmed!

Recently, news reports have confirmed that the filming location for the highly anticipated second season is Vancouver. Vancouver is really picturesque and somewhat sinister at the same time, making it the ideal place to represent Texas, Wyoming, and Missouri in the story.

“The Last of Us” Season 2 will probably be released by the end of 2024 or early 2025.

“The Last of Us” is based on the action-adventure game of the same title, following Joel, a smuggler tasked to escort the immune teenager Ellie across the post-apocalyptic United States. It stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
