Even though most critters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are harmless and essentially mind their own business, this isn’t the case for the in-game wasps. Players always have to make an effort to try and escape from these creatures, but one fan recently shared a new way of safely running away from them.
This alternative strategy was made possible thanks to the new Super Mario crossover items that were recently added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This latest crossover brought a variety of Super Mario-themed items to the players’ islands, such as bricks, stars, flowers, and more. Players can use these items to decorate not only their homes, but different areas on the island as well.
Other than that, there are new in-game outfits as well that are based on different Super Mario characters. That being said, one of the most popular crossover items is arguably the pipes. Not only are they a cute and simple way for Animal Crossing to commemorate the long-standing franchise, the pipes can also teleport players to different areas. In other words, players now have the option to fast travel between different points on the island.
Even though these pipes were already popular to begin with, they may just get even more popular once Animal Crossing: New Horizons players realize that they can also come in handy when trying to escape from angry wasps. One Reddit user who goes by the username typhanniem shared a clip of them trying out this strategy.
The short clip begins with the player shaking a couple of trees. There was no trouble at first, but long-running Animal Crossing players can probably already anticipate what’s coming next. After shaking several trees, typhanniem ends up shaking one that has a wasps nest. As expected, all hell breaks loose, and the player tries to outrun the chasing wasps.
Of course, typhanniem could have made things easier for themselves by catching the pesky bugs like they would do to the other wildlife critters. But seeing as the player didn’t have a net in hand, it was a little too late for that. Fortunately, there was a Super Mario pipe nearby, and typhanniem jumped in to safety.
After reaching the other side of the pipe, the Reddit user was no longer bothered by the wasps and they were nowhere to be seen. Before these pipes were introduced to the game, players had a much harder time trying to escape wasps. If the player wasn’t able to successfully catch them with a net, the only means for escape would be to run inside the player’s home or a villager’s home. Heading into one of the in-game shops would work well too.
If the beach is much closer, players could also dive into the water in order to be free from the angry bugs. Nevertheless, many players would still get stung by them anyway—and no wonder, given the limited escape routes available. Now that pipes can also be used as a means for escape, Animal Crossing: New Horizons can rest easy and maybe even feel a tad safer than before.
