All About ‘Haikyu!!”

It’s not haiku, but “Haikyu!!” This animated TV series ran from 2014 to 2020. Its story revolves around Shoyo Hinata, a boy determined to make his way toward becoming a formidable volleyball even if he has a diminutive stature.

Ages, Birthdays, And Heights Of The Major Characters In ‘Haikyu!!’

Shoyo Hinata

• Age: 16 years old
• Birthday: June 21st, 1996
• Height: 5’4.6”

He may just be 5’4.6” in height, small for a typical volleyball player, but nothing stops Hinata from chasing his dream. For the majority of the series, he was a first-year student at Karasuno High, a high school situated in the prefecture of Miyagi. He was among the middle blockers on their school’s Boys’ Volleyball Team.

He gradually advanced in his volleyball career, becoming a member of the MSBY Black Jackals – a Division 1 team in the V-League – a member of the Japan Men’s National Volleyball Team who competed during the Tokyo 2021 Olympics and recently got signed up to Asas São Paulo, a professional team in the Brazil Super League. 

Somehow, his personality contributed to his success. He is known to be cheerful and energetic.

Tobio Kageyama

• Age: 16 years old
• Birthday: December 22nd, 1996
• Height: 5’11.6”

Kageyama is the secondary character in the series. He is also a first-year student at Karasuno High but plays as the starting setter for the school’s boys’ volleyball club. 

Like Hinata, he is also flying high. Initially, he was trained at the All-Japan training camp when he was in his first year, eventually joining the V-League right after he graduated. He flew to Rio in Brazil, to compete in the 2016 Olympics. Currently, he is part of Italy’s Serie A professional team, Ali Roma. 

But, unlike Hinata, Kageyama isn’t the perfect angel. Others view him as sullen, arrogant, and impatient. He is also a perfectionist who only cares about winning, disregarding the opinions and well-being of his teammates. 

Daichi Sawamura

• Age: 18 years old
• Birthday: December 31st, 1994
• Height: 5’9.6”

The story of “Haikyu!!” first saw Sawamura as a third-year pupil in their school. He was the captain and the starting wing spiker for the Boys’ Volleyball Team. He stepped up as the team’s coach when its original coach was hospitalized. Unlike other characters in the story who pursued a career in sports, Sawamura took a different route. He became a member of the Miyagi Prefectural Police in its Community Safety Division.

Sawamura is very caring and responsible. No wonder he was chosen to lead their team. He puts the team’s welfare first, and is also very patient and understanding. Just don’t go near him when he is angry, as he becomes really terrifying.

Koshi Sugawara

• Age: 18 years old
• Birthday: June 13th, 1994
• Height: 5’8.7”

In the anime’s story, Sugawara also started as a third-year student at Karasuno High. He was then the vice-captain, pinch server, and substitute setter for the Boys’ Volleyball Team. Similar to Sawamura, he also chose a different career, becoming a grade school teacher in Miyagi. 

As their team’s second-in-command, the members find him soothing and gentle, acting as a support pillar for them, and this means a lot to a leader like him. Even if he chose another track in the future, he encouraged his teammates never to give up, no matter how rough the situation could be.

Asahi Azumane

• Age: 18 years old
• Birthday: January 1st, 1995
• Height: 6’1.4”

The story also shows Azumane beginning as a third-year student in their school. He was the boys’ volleyball club’s wing spiker and ace. He is a six-footer, but he has a quiet and gentle personality. No wonder he is now an apparel designer in Tokyo, a real artist. 

Yu Nishinoya

• Age: 17 years old
• Birthday: October 10th, 1995
• Height: 5’3.2”

Nishinoya is the shortest member of the team. He was a second-year student, the libero for the school’s boys’ volleyball team. His teammates call him “Karasuno’s Guardian Deity” because of his remarkable skills. 

He is very energetic yet temperamental. He exemplifies a boisterous nature and crazy shenanigans, attracting unwanted attention quite quickly, which doesn’t serve him well. After high school, he left volleyball to travel the world. 

Ryunosuke Tanaka

• Age: 17 years old
• Birthday: March 3rd, 1996
• Height: 5’10.2”

Tanaka was a second-year student for the majority of the story. He was the starting wing spiker in their school’s Boys’ Volleyball Club. After high school, he pursued a career as a personal trainer and married Kiyoko Shimizu, the volleyball team’s manager.

He is easily angered, loud, and hotheaded, so he usually picks fights. He is also a bit of a slacker. But despite those personalities, he is seen as caring and supportive of his teammates. In front of his underclassmen, he is very protective. He will make sure those who belittle others suffer for their harmful acts.
