Hazelight, the developer of the 2018 coop adventure game A Way Out, recently released the first look at the soon to be EA published title, It Takes Two, a coop platformer headed to consoles and the PC early next year.
It Takes Two looks to iterate on A Way Out’s narrative-driven coop, so players of playing games with a friend will possibly want to know information about the game’s release date, gameplay, and story. Most of the best coop games emphasize more on replayable tasks than cinematic storylines or a single-run campaign, so A Way Out stands as a comparatively one of a kind experience. The story-based adventure tells the tale of two prisoners, Vincent and Leo, in an attempt to escape their cell and unlike many drama-centered titles, it requires two players to progress in the game.
It Takes Two is a more light-hearted affair than the developer’s past projects, replacing A Way Out’s fugitive protagonists for a pair of pint-sized dolls. However, the games look to be basically similar as It Takes Two once again integrates variety-centered gameplay, tells the main story, and is a coop –only experience.
Release Date and Friend’s Pass
It Takes Two is scheduled to release on both past- and current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as on the PC on March 26, 2021. There is currently no Nintendo Switch port planned. In spite of the console’s deep-rooted focus on coop, Hazelight recently discussed in a Reddit post that A Way Out could not come to Nintendo’s console due to the fact that the game requires both players to control the camera, so It Takes Two can’t be playable by two players across a split Joy-Con controller.
This, as well as the Nintendo Switch’s relative lack of hardware power, likely is the reason for the game’s absence of a Switch launch, though it is apparently possible that a version will come to the console in the future via cloud streaming.
Players who buy It Takes Two will instantly have access to the game’s Friend’s Pass, which allows a player who doesn’t own the game to play with the owner for free through online access. Although one friend can only be invited at a time, the game’s owner can use the same Friend’s Pass with various friends in succession.

It Takes Two Plot
It Takes Two follows the story of May and Cody, a human couple transferred into the bodies of dolls by a mysterious spell. The odd premise is certainly to have some fragile moments, as the two are challenged with fixing their broken relationship in their new, magical alternate reality, shepherded by a love guru called Mr. Hakim.
It Takes Two Gameplay
Similar to A Way Out’s story-based minigames and challenges, the gameplay for It Takes Two appears to focus on variety. Along with classical platforming, It Takes Two’s announcement trailer featured May and Cody riding multiple vehicles, using different weapons and tools in a third-person perspective, and more.
All of it is set in alluring environments that appear like Little Big Planet’s yarn-filled levels, blown up into more mesmerizing, wide spaces.
