The excitement for the upcoming The Game Awards 2020 continues to heighten with teasers for huge announcements and guest presenters being revealed. Exclusive Fortnite revelations have become a trademark of the yearly awards show, and 2020 appears to continue this tradition.
The Game Awards are focusing to be the gaming industry’s version of the Oscars and Emmys, and for the past couple of years, Fortnite has unveiled major announcements that shaped the game’s future. Back in 2018, Fortnite revealed The Block point of interest, and just last year they followed it up with the reveal of Fortnite’s Star Wars crossover events. Epic Game’s version of the battle royale shooting game has also received major accomplishments at the awards show, walking away with the “Best Ongoing Game” for the past two years.
Geoff Keighley, host and producer of The Game Awards, posted a photo of a brown leather bag with a tag that reads “reads This Bag Issued to Agent Jones.” While the teaser might look unfamiliar to those who don’t play Fortnite, Agent John “Jonesy” Jones is a recurring character in the Fortnite narrative who was earlier seen in cutscenes related to huge in-game events. The teaser comes hot on the heels of the game’s Season 5, titled Zero Point, with a surprise featured skin, and new map locations.

Jones is analogous to the Nick Fury of the Fortnite multiverse, enlisting characters from various realities for the game’s crossover events. The bag from the teaser tweet of Keighley has been seen on Jone’s back in cutscenes, though its contents are always unknown.
The reveal will possibly connect to other major announcements that have already been teased, such as the rumor that Fortnite characters might appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The creative director of Epic Games, Donald Mustard, teased that Fornite might be making the jump to Nintendo’s hit crossover fighting game.
However, this will possibly not the only Fortnite reveal that could be announced at The Game Awards as previous year’s revelations have unveiled big improvements that affected Fortnite as a whole. Tweets showing a recent Zoom meeting between Mustard and Keighley add some proof to this speculation, where Mustard supposedly stated that a new event will be changing Fortnite’s future. When questioned if Fortnite characters will be introduced to Nintendo’s Smash, Mustard chose to not comment.
Despite the absence of a live audience, 2020 is shaping up to be a major year for The Game Awards, with high profile games such as Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 and surprise hits such as Supergiant Games’ Hades, fighting for the top awards.
