Gilmore Girls Fans Are Yearning for ‘A Year In The Life’ Second Revival

If you’ve seen Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, you probably finished the season feeling disappointed and wanting more. You’re not alone—many long-time fans felt the same way, too, especially since the season ended with a major cliffhanger. Many years have passed since A Year In The Life was initially aired, and fans still haven’t forgotten about it. Until now, they’re still wondering whether we’ll be seeing a second season or if all our questions will remain unanswered.

The original Gilmore Girls series was initially broadcasted in the year 2000, and it quickly became a pop culture phenomenon. We got to live, laugh, cry, and more with Lorelai, Rory, and all the other citizens of Stars Hollow for seven seasons, so it doesn’t come as a surprise why all of us fans are so attached. The original series broadcasted its final episode in 2007, and fans thought that was officially the end. However, it appeared that the Gilmore girls just weren’t done with us yet.

In 2016, Netflix released a four-part miniseries entitled Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. This miniseries took place within a span of four seasons, which meant that fans were given a peek at what Stars Hollow was up to for one entire year. It initially thrilled the fans that they were able to revisit Stars Hollow how many years later, but the season finale left more questions than answers.

As such, we’ve compiled everything we know so far about the possibility of a second revival, including what the cast members have said and more.

A Recap of Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life

As a refresher, Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life takes place nearly a decade after the original series finale. The season begins with grief, as Richard Gilmore has passed away, and Lorelai, Rory, and Emily are mourning his death in different ways. At this point in Rory’s life, she’s working as a freelance journalist and is busy working on a book proposal. She’s officially going out with Paul, but whenever she visits London, she sleeps with none other than her ex-boyfriend Logan Huntzberger, who is engaged to someone else.

On the other hand, Lorelai and Luke Danes have been together for a decade. However, they don’t discuss marriage or the possibility of having children together. Due to a major fight between herself, Rory, and Emily, Lorelai decides to go on a hiking trip to try and clear her head from her doubts and anxieties.

That hiking trip seemed effective, though, because as soon as she returns home, Lorelai proposes to Luke. The two lovers tied the knot in the famous gazebo situated in the center of Stars Hollow. As for Emily, she grapples with Richard’s death and decides to sell the Gilmore home to move to Nantucket.

Now, the drama begins at the end of the last episode. Lorelai and Rory are sitting at the gazebo where Lorelai got married, and Rory spits out some shocking news: she reveals that she’s pregnant. Yes, you read that right!

Unfortunately, the miniseries doesn’t reveal who the father is, and this is why Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life is a major cliffhanger that fans just can’t accept. Before the show ends, Rory gets a breakup text from Paul, the guy she was dating, but we never actually see him in any episode. You can even say he’s irrelevant. Fans assume that Logan is the father since they had an affair, but then again, we can never be sure unless a season 2 confirms it.

There’s Potential for a Second Season

At the moment, Netflix still hasn’t mentioned or announced a season 2 of Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. However, there’s still a tiny chance that we’ll be getting one. After all, Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, was very impressed with how Gilmore Girls have been such a success and he’s holding the door open for the possibility of a sequel.

In fact, he said during the UK’s press association in 2017 that they’re hoping for more installments. On the other hand, Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, her husband and TV partner, has a multi-year deal over at Amazon at the moment. However, Amy still has the chance to return to Netflix and continue what she started if or when the time is right.

“We carved out a little niche for ourselves with Amazon saying that if we ever want to do it, if the girls and us get together and we have a concept that works, then we have the freedom to do it,” she said during an interview with Radio Times. If Amy and her crew do return to Stars Hollow, she has made no mention about what we can expect. Although for sure, we can expect Rory to be a mother with Lorelai undoubtedly by her side through thick and thin.

Re-Meeting the Characters

At this point, we can only wait for Amy and Dan Palladino to decide that the time is right to revisit Stars Hollow. If or when that time comes, of course, we expect both Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel to once again be stars of the show. After all, these two fantastic actresses are pretty much the heart of Gilmore Girls, and it would be impossible to have a second revival without Lorelai and Rory reprising their roles.

Of course, we also expect Kelly Bishop to reprise her role as Emily Gilmore, as we can’t have a Gilmore Girls show without the Gilmore girls arguing and making up. Other key cast members include Scott Patterson, Liza Weil, Keiko Agena, Yanic Truesdale, Matt Czuchry, Milo Ventimiglia, and many more.

If the plot goes forward in the direction we expect, it would be safe to say that we can look forward to meeting Rory’s son or daughter for the first time, too. At this point, given what little information we have, the sky’s the limit!

What the Cast Thinks of a Second Revival

Even the cast is open to the idea of reprising their roles, including Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. They’re both willing to reprise their roles, of course, although Graham is worried that the series may be overstaying its welcome. Naturally, the fans disagree and want more Gilmore Girls—or at least they want some answers.

As for Matt Czuchry, he actually knows who the baby’s father is, and even admitted in a recent interview with Us Weekly that Dan and Amy told him. However, he chooses not to disclose this valuable information to anyone else because he believes that he doesn’t have the right.

Conclusion

Many years have passed, but Gilmore Girls fans are still hoping for a second revival. Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life ended in such a way that fans can’t help but want more, and maybe that’s a good thing. In the words of Scott Patterson himself, “You need that cliffhanger if you want to keep people engaged.”
