God of War PlayStation 5 Upgrade Releases Today

Santa Monica Studio’s 2018 massive hit God of War is getting a free PlayStation 5 upgrade that will improve the game’s overall graphics and performance. While the development team is currently working on the next entry in the God of War series, it has been difficult at work to create the PlayStation 5 update that is scheduled to launch today.

God of War was launched exclusively for the PlayStation 4 back in 2018, and those playing on the PlayStation 4 Pro were provided the option between two visual settings. Players could pick between the choice that focused on performance over resolution and one that favored visual quality over performance.

The game has since been made part of the PlayStation Plus Collection which is a library of games provided to PlayStation 5 subscribers for free. PlayStation 5 owners could play God of War through backward compatibility with the visuals set to high resolution and witness a little performance loss.

However, Santa Monica Studios revealed that an update would be launched for free for PlayStation 5 owners that would replace the two settings with a new default option that will favor both graphics and performance quality.

The God of War PlayStation 5 releases today, February 2, and brags 2160p support, 4K Checkerboard Resolution, 60 FPS. The developer notes that the 2160p and 4K upgrades are only available on devices that can support those resolutions.

Along with the announcement, the development team has unveiled a few screenshots of the PlayStation 5 4K update in action, and it looks amazing. Players who have already played through the game can experience it in a new look on the PlayStation 5, and those who haven’t can include the game in their library for free if they are a PlayStation Plus subscriber. Santa Monica Studios mentioned that its development team has been working hard on this patch to make sure that players get the most out of the improved performance capabilities of the PlayStation 5.

God of War was already an extraordinary experience in 2018, and it continues to provide an exciting, inspiring, and entertaining adventure to partake in even almost three years later. Many fans have played through the game numerous times to experience the alluring world of Midgar over and over, and now they can do so again while looking through a different lens. Now, fans can look back at every action-packed moment of God of War in crystal clear 60 FPS and 4K resolution.
