Developer Hidden Path Currently Working on Dungeons and Dragons Game

Fans of the classic tabletop RPG, Dungeons & Dragons, will be thrilled by this news. According to recent news, it appears that a brand-new open-world game set in Dungeons & Dragons’ universe is in the making. Developer Hidden Path Entertainment recently tweeted that the studio was hiring talent in order to help develop the upcoming open-world game.

Even though Dungeons & Dragons has been around for quite a while now—more or less 50 years at this point—it was able to stay afloat despite the oversaturated market. Its success is unsurprising though, given how Wizards of the Coast continues to release updates and new editions of the game. Not only that, there’s also the highly popular streaming series known as Critical Role, which has greatly helped the game retain if not increase its popularity.

Seeing how Dungeons & Dragons is here to stay, other video game studios have decided to join the fray—like Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3, for example, which is set in Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms campaign. Since the tabletop game is a fantasy RPG, there’s a lot of room for possibilities and it’s perfect as an open-world RPG.

According to the tweet, Hidden Path Entertainment is now looking to hire several developers with different areas of expertise. The tweet specifically states that the studio is working on “a AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will be taking place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.”

There are four different positions available, namely graphics programmer, lead graphics programmer, senior technical artist, and writer. Details are still scarce at this point, and we have yet to know which sourcebook planes Hidden Path will direct its focus on. On the career page of the developer’s official website, there are more details on each available position.

When browsing through the graphics programmer job description, it states there that the hired applicant will be making use of Unreal Engine 4 as well as the Niagara VFX System. On the other hand, the applicants for the writer position should be familiar with branching narratives and have “strong editing skills.”

From this information, it’s highly possible that this upcoming open-world game will feature multiple endings as well as several dialogue options. It’s not at all surprising, given how this type of gameplay is more and more common these days.

At the moment, Hidden Path Entertainment doesn’t have an expansive repertoire just yet, unlike other popular studios out there. However, this particular team worked with Valve Counter Strike: Global Offensive, which garnered high praise from players and critics alike.

Even though there’s not a lot of details yet, Dungeons & Dragons fans are already beyond excited about this news. The tabletop RPG is already the type of game wherein the choices players make matters, and so does character customization. As such, transferring this concept to an open-world game sounds like everything gamers could ever want.

The tides may be against Hidden Path Entertainment, seeing as it’s not a fairly well-known studio, and there are tons of open-world titles in the market right now. However, we’ll just have to wait and see how well they develop this upcoming game, and if it will be able to live up to its AAA expectations.
