For the past couple of weeks, Nintendo of America’s official Twitter account has been teasing fans with screenshots highlighting Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity’s different characters. This time around, the company has shared a few photos showcasing Princess Zelda’s father, King Rhoam.
Usually, kings in the Legend of Zelda franchise take on a more passive role, although this no longer seems to be the case in this upcoming installment. In Nintendo of America’s tweet, there are three images of King Rhoam that give fans a sneak peek about what they can expect out of the Hyrulean king in Age of Calamity.
In the first screenshot, we can see King Rhoam solemnly standing and holding a two-handed sword that is of considerable size. It’s safe to say that this great sword will be his main weapon, given the fact that we can see him holding the same one on a different screenshot.
In addition to that, it looks as if there’s some kind of glowing light that radiates off of the sword. It appears to be the same kind of light that Princess Zelda emits every time she uses her powers.

In the second screenshot, King Rhoam looks to be commanding a bunch of Hylian Knights. One thing that’s worth taking note of in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is the fact that Hylian Knights now appear to have different classes and jobs.
Going back to the second screenshot, the knights found there appear to have the same rank as Link, whereas the two knights on both sides of King Rhoam are his personal guards.
Last but not least, the third screenshot features the red and blue Hylian Knights along with the King himself. It appears that they are fighting alongside King Rhoam, as the ruler himself looks like he also participated in the battle with his trusty two-handed sword.
As such, players are speculating that King Rhoam will also be a playable character in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Albeit uncommon, this isn’t the first time that a King of Hyrule would be a playable character. You could actually play as King Daphnes from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker in Hyrule Warriors Legends.
The initial Hyrule Warriors game had a lot of issues that fans wanted the developer to address, but it still remained to be a highly popular game despite its flaws. It would definitely be a great thing if King Rhoam truly is a playable character in the upcoming Breath of the Wild prequel/Hyrule Warriors sequel.
His addition would expand the game’s roster of playable characters, which is something that fans have been asking for from the franchise. At this point, Nintendo hasn’t officially confirmed any of the theories, but these speculations appear to be true based on the screenshots.
Plus, the fact that he has a signature sword with him is a pretty good indication that players can step into his shoes and fight as King Rhoam himself during Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity’s intensive battles.
