So far, the updates for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity focused solely on the familiar characters that already made an appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

For this most recent trailer, one can say that this trend still continues, however, it also showcases one of the first real teasers of the new elements you will find in Breath of the Wild’s prequel.

Nintendo and Koei Tecmo’s previous trailers and announcements paid attention to Age of Calamity’s playable characters like Link, Zelda, Impa, and Champions such as Urbosa. However, the recent trailers for the upcoming title are beginning to shift its focus to the other characters you’ll encounter in-game, showcasing to players what they can expect from popular side-characters like Purah and Robbie, for example.

For this new trailer though, Nintendo has passed the spotlight onto the Yiga Clan, which is a group that separated from the Sheikah and sided with Calamity Ganon.

The teaser trailer is only a few seconds short, but it features Yiga’s masked soldiers challenging Link and Zelda. However, the teaser mainly focuses on Master Kohga, the Yiga Clan’s leader. Just like in Breath of the Wild, the villain has a large belly and an exaggerated attitude.

It’s unfortunate that the Yiga Clan didn’t play a bigger role in Breath of the Wild, as they were only featured during one key quest. However, the fact that they get teased to fans with their very own dedicated trailer could mean that they may be more significant this time.

That being said, the trailer gets even more interesting near the end. Around thirty-two seconds in, you will see two Yiga footmen kneeling on the ground in front of a hooded figure who has some kind of glowing spherical device floating on the palm of their hand.

We don’t know anything about this “ominous figure” just yet, but interesting hints found within the trailer allow us to speculate. For one thing, the hooded figure has the crest of the Gerudo printed on the back of their cloak.

Then, a closeup of their face could be seen at the very end of the trailer, which shows that this person is wearing a headpiece with an eye. This coincidentally looks very similar to the ones visible in  Breath of the Wild’s Malice, which is the dark matter that was created out of Ganon.

Taking all of this into consideration along with the fact that Age of Calamity is a prequel, it’s highly likely that the hooded character will play a vital role in the resurrection of Calamity Ganon, which will then lead to the events that take place in Breath of the Wild.

After all, Breath of the Wild didn’t really go in-depth when it came to the game’s backstory because this was mostly restricted to Link’s flashbacks. As such, it could mean that with Age of Calamity, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo will be revealing to the fans the history of Hyrule through a wider perspective.

It’s definitely exciting to consider that we might finally be able to learn more about Hyrule’s past in this upcoming title as well as how Ganon is resurrected.
