Soon, you’ll be able to use your TV to answer calls, based on the feature included in Google’s Android TV 14 Beta 1.

Mishaal Rahman, an Android researcher and journalist, shared the news on Twitter. According to him, besides receiving notifications, users should also be able to directly answer the calls on their televisions using supported apps.

According to Rahman, Android TV 14 Beta 1 will also allow users to adjust the settings of the calls using the respective setting options of the apps. However, it is important to note that the calls will only work when users use their personal user profiles on the TVs.

This opens a whole new possibility of how Android TVs will be used in the future. By allowing calls via apps to work on Android TVs, it could mean professionals to typical users will be able to conduct call conferences on big screens conveniently in the future. This initiative follows the theme of this year’s Olympic Day, “Let’s Move.”

“Movement can make us feel amazing. Daily physical activity has multiple health benefits for our bodies, hearts and minds. That’s why on Olympic Day on 23rd June, we invite the world to join us and celebrate the joy of moving by building physical activity into our daily lives,” the official Olympics website stated. 

The Samsung Health app’s Olympic Day Step Challenge has an overall target of 100,000 steps. It will encourage the app users by congratulating them every time they achieve 20,000 steps. Those who can complete the entire challenge will be rewarded with the “Olympic Day Badge,” to be displayed in their “My Page” sections on the Samsung Health app.

This feature has started to appear on the users’ apps today, but the challenge will start this June 10th and end on Olympic Day on June 23rd. It is available in 18 countries. 

Historic Unpacked event 

It’s official. The 2023 Galaxy Unpacked event will be held in Seoul this July 26th, according to news media. It is historic because it will be the first time the event will happen in the South Korean capital. For over 10 years, beginning with the very first Unpacked event in 2010 in Las Vegas, Samsung has held its Unpacked events in cities like New York, Berlin, London, and Barcelona. 

During the event, one of the expected revelations would be unveiling of the company’s new foldable smartphones, tentatively referred to as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5. 

There is no better place to hold one of the company’s biggest events than where it is headquartered. It also said Seoul is the “beating heart of Samsung’s dynamic growth worldwide.”

“It is where Samsung’s openness philosophy and innovation vision come from, guiding the future of the company,” Samsung told the news media.

Today, June 8th, World Oceans Day is being celebrated across the globe. And over on Twitter, #WorldOceansDay is trending as various groups, organizations, and institutions share their insights about this momentous occasion. Up next are the details of this news. 

What is World Oceans Day?

The ocean covers more than 70 percent of the Earth. It is a life source, supporting the sustenance of human beings and other organisms on this planet. 

Home to most of the Earth’s biodiversity and the primary source of protein for billions of people worldwide, the ocean produces at least 50 percent of the planet’s oxygen. But the statistics regarding how the world cares for its seas are far more alarming. 

According to data on the website of the United Nations, which started World Oceans Day, 90 percent of big fish populations are depleted, and 50 percent of coral reefs are destroyed. This is why occasions like World Oceans Day are important to promote caring for the world’s oceans. 

World Oceans Day, or World Ocean Day, is an international day that happens annually every June 8th. It was in 1992 when the concept was originally proposed by the International Centre for Ocean Development in Canada, and the Ocean Institute of Canada at the Earth Summit – UN Conference on Environment and Development in Brazil. 

This year, World Oceans Day follows the theme, “Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing,” which discovers “how Earth is more than it may seem,” and promote cherishing and protecting not just the ocean but the entire planet. 

Twitter celebrates #WorldOceanDay

Various groups are sharing their insights about World Ocean Day on Twitter, celebrating the occasion. 

The official Twitter account of the United Nations said the ocean is our life, future, and responsibility. 

“She is life. Our future. Our responsibility. She is our ocean. (emoji) And we have the power to save her. But we must #ActNow. Thursday is #WorldOceansDay,” the United Nations tweeted. 

UN added that there is one ocean but two possible futures. They said by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the sea and urged people to save the ocean. 

Meanwhile, UNESCO, a specialized agency of the UN that promotes world peace and security through international cooperation in education, arts, sciences, and culture, also called for all countries to take urgent action to save the ocean.

“Not only the #Ocean provides the air we breathe, but it also absorbs 30% of the planet’s CO2 emissions. Yet, we are literally killing it… we call on all countries to take urgent action to #SaveOurOcean!” UNESCO tweeted. 

“Happy #WorldOceansDay! Our ocean connects, sustains & supports all life on Earth. Yet, the triple planetary crisis puts it under serious threat. It’s time to restore our relationship with the ocean to one with respect and of balance,” the UN Environment Programme tweeted. 

Individuals on Twitter are also joining the bandwagon. One of them is Naveen Patnaik, a politician in India, who said oceans are the “lungs” of the Earth, urging people to keep them plastic-free.
